Blimey, Mumbai's gonna have Suburban rail network metro system, mono rail, BRT and Hovercraft and a viable and affordable auto and taxi feeder.
Delhi only metro, BRT and mono rail, auto's are so so but taxi in Delhi is a no-no. All they need is green bicycle lanes tied into the mass transit systems. Someone pls. explain how Delhi Metro is $ 19 Billion. You can build a couple of brand new cities for that.

To be honest it is pretty easy to see why. Not only was it the first such system in the country meaning a huge talent pool had to be trained up and logistics raised but a huge amount of experience had to be gained. Additionally the Delhi metro is by far the largest metro system in India and soon the 2nd largest IN THE WORLD- This doesn't come cheap. Additonally the infrastructure had to be set up from nothing (same with other metros though) and innovative ideas to combat serious issues like drilling in old Delhi where many of the ancient and preserved buildings don't have foundations. The DM is world class (as are all metros in India) but these things don't come cheap.

However, couldn't they ram through a by-law in Delhi state parliament to acquire/grab say a meter or 2, or use sewage/waste water drains all over Delhi to build an old school, Bombay style rail based system hooked up to a top notch BRT system. Monorail could have served the last mile out to the NCR sub-cities. Local and cheap too.

Unless, it was deliberately done re: the foreign funding game. Delhi city is nowhere near as good as it's 'foreign' metro. Or am I being naive.

We know corruption is well and alive in India. Wot .

Not to be a muck-raker, in a country with over 100 yrs. in rail tech!, India hardly lacks in rail infrastructure HR wise. Plenty of rail based institutions.

Delhi metro is OK, yes one can argue given Indian conditions bkah-blah-blah. Technically speaking, it could be really next gen, it's OK and mostly imported. 1 thing I give you, it's not only 'world class', it's in a class of its own re. tix pricing . All good.

Imperial Tower is a 116-story residential building next to two existing towers in Mumbai, India. At 400 meters, it will be Mumbai's tallest building, and will serve as a prototype for future tall towers in this densely developed but currently low-rise city. The tower's form is distinguished by sensuous curves, lush skygardens and a high-performance, highly reflective exterior wall. The aerodynamic shape of the tower is designed to confuse the wind, minimizing negative effects of wind action on the building; the skygardens also help break up wind vortexes around the building. The terraces also function as beautiful amenities for building occupants, providing access to light and views and a strong connection with the natural world in a manner atypical for Mumbai. The exterior wall provides a strong visual contrast with the heavy masonry cladding of most surrounding buildings; the wall system is also highly sustainable, blocking solar heat gain and diffusing direct sunlight in the city's hot, humid climate. Other sustainable features include greywater collection and re-use systems, high-efficiency MEP systems, a green wall podium and the use of native plants throughout the landscaping. The 76,000-square-meter tower features 132 luxury residential units, whose interiors were designed by our firm.
