General news :

MY DEAR FRIEND YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MY PIC OF AIMS BHUBANESWAR, I MEAN TO SAY THIS CONSTRUCTION OF AIMS IS GOING TO COMPLETE BY 2012,SO ALL MODERN TECHNIQUES AND AMBULANCE YOU WILL FIND IN 2012 ITSELF OK BY LAST OF 2012,SO DONT TRY TO MAKE YOURSELF EMBARRASS BEING AN INDIAN,AND DONT COMPARE IT WITH FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

Wait and watch, if the current negotiations work out we may even have a HSR mania

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm concerned about this.

Aeroplanes are a good and established alternative to HSR's.

(c) Aedas, a reputable arch. design house - so this project is on.

Wadala is in make over mode, used to be truck depot and remains oil tank storage area, on the south-east coast of Bombay city itself, go figure.

Indian cities are also good for over-nighters say the major Delhi-Bombay, Delhi-Calcutta artery.
Delhi-Madras, Bangalore, Kochi or Bombay- Calcutta, Bombay- Madras, Cal-Madras is better by plane.

Solution: Make small-to-medium commuter planes, with cheaper 'ground effect' sea-plane versions re: vast coastal market, think Bombay-Goa, Calcutta-Madras etc. routes! Pssst entrepreneurs, here's your mega $ Billions ;) !

:cheesy: Problem: Japan, Germany, France & China are HSR champion's and are so pushy about HSR's that they will sign up India no problem. Said countries have vast public funds to foist on India. An India where the politicos think nothing of big ticket infra projects with future debt burdens passed on to the next generations of Indian public. Any engineer or public minded lay man can see that while public transport infra projects like Metro, BRT, Airport's have merit; they are hugely over-priced and over engineered re: Indian conditions.

Local solutions would have been 10-100 times cheaper and would have given a shot in the arm to the nascent R&D community of India. However, the mega contract 'padding' common with foreign money driven public projects would be lacking ... no loot for the corrupt cabal of politicos, builders and contractors  .

Well agreed flight options are available, but HSR will be cheaper than air travel, not by much, ofcourse, but still it will make quite a difference, plus it's time to welcome some new trains in the country

In 10 years, all of south Indian cities would be very different. Things are changing pretty fast. As and when Interest rates are cut down to previous levels, there would be surge in development.

Not only South Indian, but Indians cities in general, Delhi is a leading example. You should really go there, I wasn't expecting much but I would say it surprised me, so we can conclude, the everlasting problem of "poor infrastructure of poor India" is being resolved now, in 2015, many of the towers in Mumbai will be completed and I would really be waiting for them... similar things are happening in Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR, Gurgaon area... Now we are waiting for UP and Bihari bhaiyaas
