India has disagreed to give Dhaka corridor to import power from Nepal and Bhutan through a cross-border transmission line to meet a crying need for electricity at home.

The refusal came on the final day of a two-day Indo-Bangladesh dialogue on power-sector cooperation in the city Thursday.

“They (India) said it is a tripartite matter. So we could not discuss the matter without Nepal or Bhutan,” an official of Bangladesh Power Division quoted the Indian side as saying on the proposal during the secretary-level power talks.

Bangladesh Power Division secretary Monwar Hossain led the host side at the dialogue while the Indian delegation was headed by P Uma Sankar, power secretary of the Indian power ministry.

But, the Indian power secretary assured the Bangladesh side of informing government’s high-ups of the matter.

“Bangladesh and Nepal have been working toward a bilateral cooperation in the field of hydropower development in Nepal,” an official of the Power Division informed.

Earlier, a delegation of the Power Division led by Md Mofazzel Hossain visited Nepal in July last year to discuss various aspects of the proposed power-sector cooperation.

During a meeting with the Nepalese counterpart, the Power Division delegation discussed constructing a dedicated power-transmission line between the two countries through Indian territory, a power division official said.

The official also said both the sides were interested to have power connectivity through the Indian power grid line via Duhabi-Purnia-Barapukuria or Anarmani-Siliguri-Barapukuria route.

The meeting also discussed various aspects of power trade through the under-construction Bheramara HVDC station, using the 400KV Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar cross-border transmission line, subject to approval from the Indian authorities.

“The Nepalese counterpart has already agreed to initiate a joint-venture hydroelectric project in Nepal,” the Power Division officials informed.

Now, we should start dancing for all the 'love and goodwill' that we got for giving them transit right! The so-called defenders of the spirit of 71 must be having orgasms over this friendly gesture of their 'beloved' neighbour!

You are an illiterate BDeshi and nothing else. First read up on the matter. It clearly says it is a tripartite matter. Is it that hard to understand?? :hitwall:

Moreover 90% of the hydroelectric plants in Bhutan are built by India. So we will meet out needs first and then talk about the 3rd party.

this is how yindoos treat their weaker neighbors, and yet they whine about pakistan and BD's outreach to china. listen, your bullies, left alone, you guys are just the sort of grabby, greedy, greasy creatures that are a threat to all your neighbors. your neighbors want a friendship with china not to harm you - how could they? they are too small to be a threat in anyway - but to gain some leverages, just some, to curb yindoos' worst excesses in grandiosity and greed.

Sure the yindoos are very bad, that is why they are claiming their land up to middle of Vietnam, Philippines, and all neighboring nations because one thousand years ago one of their king gone and pissed there, what a greedy act indeed !

I don't find any line where Indian officials said that India will not allow the transfer of electricity.:undecided: They only said that they can discuss only bilateral matters in this meeting while for deals which includes more than 2 parties, there will be multi-country meeting.:P India is not against such agreement. :agree:

Lol- i just love to see frustration of jamati raz*kars.. especially the ones which were left behind during partition... :D

Topic clearly mentuons that it is a tri-party issue & can not be discussed without Nepal and Bhutan; but some morons here cant spend a day without lamenting 1971 freedom struggle.. pathetic indeed..

lol 50 cent troll is in full form.. did that earn you 2 cents? :D

I thought the Indian media was sensational, after all the lecturing from our well informed neighbours who are accustomed to the highest standards of objective and ethical journalism at home.

So the Indian power secretary wants to have a meeting with power secretaries of all 3 countries TOGETHER and that translates into - India denying power corridor to BD?!

And some of the jokers here are visibly incapable of reading beyond the eye-ball grabbing headline.

It is india that has to give transit not Bhutan or Nepal, they are selling electricity to Bangladesh, so labeling indian transit a "tripartite matter" is the blatent lie and deception.

Is it possible that the hydro electric projects in Nepal & Bhutan may have been funded by India ?

If so, do ppl see any implications ?

How is this a tripartite matter?Nepal's only selling electricity.Whether BD gets it through China-Myanmar or India is not Nepal's headache.

So this is how an ordinary BD reacts.....

When India demands corridor- Evil yindoo baniya blah blah...we must not give them any corridor.

When India refuses Corridor- Evil yindoo baniya blah blah...they dont want to see BD developing....

Hamne kya BD ka theka le rakha hai?? No corridor for India means no corridor for BD.

How is this a tripartite matter?Nepal's only selling electricity.Whether BD gets it through China-Myanmar or India is not Nepal's headache.

And how exactly you plan to get through China or Myanmar??

Airbus k planes electricity ki home delivery dege kya?

Let me tell you how it is a tripartite matter...Electricity will be sold by NEPAL, will be transmitted through INDIA and will reach BANGLADESH.....le ho gaye 3 parties

Read the news, Bangladesh already has bilateral understanding with Nepal to have joint venture hydro project. Don't use more lie and deception to cover previous indian lie. India already has zero credibility in Bangladesh and with anyone india dealt with.

You obviously did not get my point! My point is the transit is not Nepal's headache! It is Bangladesh's problem. If we can have cables from one end of the Atlantic to the other having cables through China and Myanmar is very much possible!I am not saying it is practical but possible! Now,It should not be a tripartite matter because Bangladesh will pay for the transit and Nepal will only sell electricity!Do you get it?
