Yes, I know you and several other Pakistanis hate the Chinese Government with a passion.
Anyway, Deng Xiaoping took a huge risk, by massively cutting our defence budget in order to provide extra stimulus to our economy for economic reforms. He then balanced the USA/USSR (who were both our enemies at that point) to avoid a military confrontation with either one, which had partial success.
The Economic success though, was undeniable. And today, the top Chinese leaders still follow in the footsteps of Deng Xiaoping and his focus on economy. Which is why we have not had a war for over 30 years, our economy is more important, especially at this stage.
Oh yup yup, we should disarm and appease everyone. Heck why not let an American be the Chinese president. Lets go further and have a relationship with America similar to what Japan and South Korea has. We will be rich alright, f****y rich, but we will be an American colony with no independent foreign policy.
Since Mao died, our military have taken a secondary priority. Now we are scared to do anything that hurts America's feelings. Our military spending is about 1% of GDP, only 7% of our central government expenditure. Since Mao died we have been embarrassed by everyone. Even Vietnam kicked our butt in 1979 because of liberals.
10% of GDP should go to military. Unfortunately liberals probably think 1% is too much.
