India cancels plans to buy 48 Mi-17 V5 helicopters from Russia

Good decision.

India should focus on locally build helicopters...

Hal druv - over 450 helicopters
Hal LuH - 3 - in production
Hal LCH - 3 - in production

Target achieved to develop above helicopters and the next target should be to replace mi17 helicopters with below one.

Indian Multi Role Helicopter

as an outsider, you don't really care but a timely purchase is important for the armed forces, they can't wait.

India planned to purchase these 48 helicopters in 2014, but this was never on the priority list.

Already hundreds of Mi17V5 are flying in India.. So now IAF has decided to go for local products.

So it is a good decision.

It was reported that Indian Airforce also suggested to MOD that India should consider indigenous route for avionics upgrade of SU 30 MKI. This is because of the sanctions crippling the electronics supply chain that Russia depends on. The only alternative for Russia now is Chinese electronics for critical components. This is not good for India.

I expect that the helicopter decision may also be related to this. But as far as I know, India may still have to depend on Russia for engines. This is especially the case SU 30 upgrades 🤔

India for certain has a problem with the Su30 fleet right now - it is in urgent need of an upgrade to stay combat effective. Losing a Su30MKI in a stand-off with the PAF when an F16 shot one down has shown its weaknesses against modern fighters and missiles and illustrates how dated the avionics suite is for "front line active" combat versus the needs of a 2nd line defence which is where the jet is not pitched at.

The Su30MKI fleet needs new engines as they are working through the lifespans of the existing engines already.

The most logical solution for India is essentially to take the avionics & electronics core for the Tejas 1A / Tejas 2 and use that to upgrade the Su30MKI with homegrown mission computers, displays and AESA Radars and EW equipment. Essentially attempt to do what China has done with its J11 upgrade programme on Russian purchased jets.

The problem India has is will the Russians agree to sell "just the new engines" or will they insist on the entire Super Sukhoi upgrade contract as was originally envisaged. I suspect they will insist on the whole deal and there will be a standoff between the two that will delay the programme until either side relents.

The Su30MKI upgrade programme could well become a political pawn between India-USA-Russia ... interesting times ahead for sure.

So American sanctions indirectly crippling Indian defense supply chain??

India used to buy cheaper but effective Russian equipment. But how will India now afford American defence products which are often triple the cost??
This is indeed a problem for India. That is why Putin's war is not in India's interest. It is an unnecessary foreign policy nightmare :cray:

Shooting down su 30 is just a similar claim as to shoot down f16..

Far from the reality..

You are so arrogant that you want to tell Russia that you and the Indian government "do not approve" of Russia's operation in Ukraine ? Who are you, man ?

a servant is always a servant no matter what clothes it wears

not really

IAF backed down...it showed something big went down

besides PAF unlike India isnt a liar.
You believe as you believe but again it is far from the reality.
During the few mins of incidents, definitely paf was having better position with better planning, maximum number of awacs aircrafts was flying, number of aircrafts at air and AA missile of f 16 with better range.

Exposed three major loopholes - unsure communication on mig 21, less awacs aircrafts availability, and missile ranges issues..

the reality is india back down... and begged Pakistan to open it;s airspace.

that is a cold hard fact.

Nope, reality is that india asked to hand over it's pilot immediately or face the next action. Just search about " Qatal ki Raat" By American officer

And, the pilot return within 60 hours

US intervened and broked a deal... a few months later IK was in washington and US released 100M worth of weapons to Pakistan. It was going horribily wrong for India.

The important thing for you remember after that india behaved it's self.

repeating non sense will do you no good.

Like i said India behaved it self after the bashing we gave our response.. and that is the important bit.

PAF attacked India on broad day light despite pressure from West not to counter strike. Not only that PAF was preparing a full spectrum on all it's airbases.

Any one with common sense would conclude the folllowing:

Pakistan doesnt fear India

frankly after 27 Feb i dont think they even respect you.

dont mistake our mercy for fear, PAF warriors are not kafirs

27 feb, keep this small thing....it does not matter at all...

NOw, Ukraine should call stronger navy force as they were able to suck a Russian ship as per your logic.

India vs Pakistan - i could understand your feelings. The same feelings we have incase of india vs china scenario. We might completely destroyed but but...
