India and Iran: Challenges and Opportunity

Let me be a bit blunt. IMO...Iran and India relations will not be like what you think or want. Money is major part, but relations between India and Iran will be more strategic in nature. For India, Iran is the gateway to middle east and central Asia and there will be huge Indian investments happening in Iran, while Iran will be one of the largest supplier of oil to growing Indian economy. And India will exploit the troubled relations between Iran and Pakistan to its advantage while Iran will exploit Indian relations to get out at US. Don't even be surprised if Iran joins SAARC as a full member.

lol...

I can understand you predicament. Things don't happen the way people always want. Accepting it is part of the life.

I'm sorry... didn't mean to poke fun at you!

But honestly sometimes I'm amazed at the naivete of some members, and particularly Indian members here. What you mentioned above is exactly what I said we need to be wary of, when dealing with India.

I don't know if you are aware, but for the past 36 years Iran and Iranians have been put in a vice with the weight of world on it. And so far, they seem to be getting the better of it. If you think we took on the West, Israel, Arabs and all their cumulative wealth and their allies, to now be played by India and get entangled in their games, well you've got another thing coming buddy!!!

I'm not trying to be bombastic or bold here. That's just the honest truth. I mean there's something to this. Somewhere along the way, our ideals count for something for us. And from what every Indian seems to be saying here, values and ideals mean absolutely nothing to you. So even though we may be speaking English, our words may as well be in Greek.

You have serious comprehension problem. Where did I say that India wants to play Iran. I said the relations between Iran and India will be strategic in nature and mutually beneficial.

You're right. You never said India wanted to play Iran. I did. I said we needed to be careful about that and keep it businesslike. Because you've proven to be untrustworthy. Do you follow now?

OK, than be careful.

For me, that's exactly the type of third world mentality that sets you apart from more culturally, and therefore materially advanced nations of the world. Indians in particular seem to think if they could be more ruthless and more unprincipled than everybody else, they would somehow get ahead of others. Nothing could be further from the truth. Look at all the advanced nations. Think Japan, Germany, Britain, US.... These are highly ethical and moral nations. That's exactly why they are where they are. And this of course, is reflected in the policies of their governments. They have a network of friends that they trust and work with on a long term basis. None of them make U-turns the type India did. Anyway, I know I'm not going to change your mind with a few lines of thoughts here. You are free to be as you wish and we shall see which worldview works best in the long run. But since you brought up the subject, I wanted to point that out to you.

It is interesting that you think that Japan, Germany, Britain, US.etc are very ethical & moral nations, however you still haven't answered my question - what has Iran done for India that it expects that sort of "trustworthiness"?

After removal of sanctions, Iran will be open to sell oil, gas and minerals to anyone, and there are many other countries with lot more deep pockets than India already lining up for investments and business ventures in Iran. And yes money will talk.......

What's even more interesting is that you think somebody has to do something for you, in order for you to become trustworthy.... It's like an onion. The more you peel, the stronger the smell...

There are few countries that can buy oil in such large quantities as India. The other being US and China.

As on deep pockets...people don't buy or invest in something for which they have no use. Iran knows that too. Hence Iran was the first to reach to India the day news of sanctions being lifted were announced. Iran offered India to invest in around $8 billion worth of projects.

As I said Iran is India's gateway to middle east and central Asia, hence would invest more and more in Iranian economy as the time passes.

Trust has to be earned, no one gives it to you for free.

There is ample trust between India and Iran for Iran to offer India to invest in Chahabar . He is just trolling.

That's not the point. Trustworthiness is an inner value. It has got to do with your own morals and values, rather than simply trusting somebody.

Why not? You have been saying India is not trustworthy etc, I asked you why do you expect a one sided relationship? Where's your give to the take that you demand?

Obviously, my remarks are only in the context of his posts.

India broke its own assurances. That demonstrates lack trustworthiness.

I refuse to lend $1000 to somebody I don't know. That demonstrates lack of trust.
