India ahead of China in quality of scientific papers

Using citation number per paper to determine the quality of paper is doubtful. Since China's SCI publication is growing rapidly and a large portion of China's publication comes out in the recent (one or two) years. How can you expect a recent published paper to have a very high citation number and compare it to another paper that have come out 5 or 10 years ago?

P.S. China's SCI publication is about 10 times more than Indian's.

agreed and I didn't think about this but, alot of the old classical papers have 500+ citations, but the newer, specialized papers have maybe 1 or 2. that's why countries whose science got started in the 50's or 60's have huge amounts of citations, because they were there first, and their discoveries were what the later people built on. the newer papers and countries who publish them are much more specialized, and thus naturally have less citations.

It would be more convincing if they compare the citation rate of publications that came out in the same year.

do they even have quantity considered as primitive society?

Look who is talking about primitive society a Chinese with a straight face. An only Child from so called ancient civilization of China with bloody primitive history. A troll from a communist rule instituting self invented modern values on dead bodies of own people and at the cost basic modern values of freedom of speech etc.

do you believe half the things you write? are you serious?

A study done by researchers at Wuhan University in 2010 says more than 100 million U.S. dollars changes hands in China every year for ghost-written academic papers. The market in buying and selling scientific papers has grown five-fold in the past three years.
The study says Chinese academics and students often buy and sell scientific papers to swell publication lists and many of the purported authors never write the papers they sign. Some master's or doctoral students are making a living by churning out papers for others. Others mass-produce scientific papers in order to get monetary rewards from their institutions.

But currently only thing judge the scientific journals and papers is citation only.

Thompson impact factor is based on citations only,

so until great china comes up with new system, above news is true that india leads china in quality of papers.

has to be the biggest joke..after working with Indian engineers and technicians side by side..India like any mass populated country produces quantity rather than quality!

I dont knw whom u worked with, but i know more than 20-30 friends who went to ivy league colleges and r doing top research in the USA.

My school alone sends 10 people to IIT every year and of those 7-8 of them get to do research in top US Univs.

i didnt put india at primitive society category please complain to WIPO's anuual nations compatitive reports that put india at primitive society which is 2 steps away from China's efficiency driven economy and 4 steps away from u.s's innovation driven society..too much toxic been taking?

Agree.

Its not worth discussing. the quality of the Indian research is bad except in some research institutes. I cant comment abt China coz i have not seen it myself but from what i have heard they are far ahead in most areas. Moreover Chinese researchers are very dedicated to their research which lacks in India.

Total agreement from my side.

I am not sure what we are arguing about....our PM has clearly said that we are behind china in filed of Science...It does not matter if our quality is better on(whatever we publish)...The amount being spent on R&D is pathetic in our case, so is the private sector contribution(again govt. fault to larger extent)...Our best universities/IIT's etc always have to deal with scarcity of funds...The need of the hour is to increase % of GDP spent on R&D...Innovation is the key for faster and sustainable growth...

I agree with you too.Even the IIT professor's believe that R&D spending is peanuts.
