Top 20 Countries in ALL FIELDS, 2001-August 31, 2011

For the tenth consecutive year, ScienceWatch.com Webmaster Spyder Schafer presents the 10th annual "Top 20" listings of countries which, according to the latest bimonthly update of Essential Science IndicatorsSM, achieved particular distinction based on their papers published in Thomson Reuters-indexed journals from January 2001 through August 31, 2011, a 10-year plus 8-month period (fourth bimonthly).

Out of the 147 countries in the Essential Science Indicators database, 60 published at least 10,000 papers during the period. Countries are listed by three separate measures in the tables below: number of citations, total papers, and cites per paper. (Note: For articles with multiple authors representing different countries, each listed country receives full, not fractional, citation credit for the given paper.)

i didnt put india at primitive society category please complain to WIPO's anuual nations compatitive reports that put india at primitive society which is 2 steps away from China's efficiency driven economy and 4 steps away from u.s's innovation driven society..too much toxic been taking?

You should thank your luck that you are sitting in your rat hole. Otherwise i could have smacked your yellow face for calling my nation primitive without provocation, you IDIOT. Two step away ! your country is still primitive and the you being a only fugly son of your mother is one marker out of many your state's primitiveness.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am not sure what we are arguing about....our PM has clearly said that we are behind china in filed of Science...It does not matter if our quality is better on(whatever we publish)...The amount being spent on R&D is pathetic in our case, so is the private sector contribution(again govt. fault to larger extent)...Our best universities/IIT's etc always have to deal with scarcity of funds...The need of the hour is to increase % of GDP spent on R&D...Innovation is the key for faster and sustainable growth...

As far i knw our universities and IIT are gud teaching institute not fine at research . but some of our research institute really dng gud and attaining some success.

Exactly my point...We have done great in pharma but what about other sectors??? Why our top institutes are merely teaching institutes and not fine at research??? Think what is missing..talent - heck no way...Money - for sure..

Nature Publishing Index Charts Rapid Rise in Quality of China’s Research

The Nature Publishing Index 2010, details a dramatic rise in the quality of research being produced by China. Published today as a supplement to Nature, the 2010 Index for China ranks research institutions and cities in mainland China. The ranking is based on outputs in Nature research journals in 2010 with comparative data for 2009. The supplement also presents data from other leading journals – Science, Cell, NEJM and The Lancet – showing similar rises in quality output from China.
The numbers of papers from China published in Nature research journals has risen from just six in 2000, and a corrected count of two, to 149 and corrected count of 66 in 2010. “Only a few years ago the number of papers in Nature research journals from China would have been too small to carry out the sort of detailed analysis by institution and city that has been achieved here,” said David Swinbanks, Managing Director Asia and Australasia, Nature Publishing Group. The supplement also highlights a comparable rise in numbers of papers in other high impact journals – Science, Cell, The Lancet, and NEJM – from a combined total of 3 papers

Is this the best you can come up?????

Are you so ignorant and fool of just posing as one?????

The ranking you have published i just based upon the papers published in a particular magazine "Nature" only, its nothing to do with the global ranking or quality in the world.:tdown:

Example:

Its like in a "xyz" magazine Nigeria publishes 100 paper but there were only 10 papers from USA, in that case one can't claim Nigeria is ahead of USA.

. .
has to be the biggest joke..after working with Indian engineers and technicians side by side..India like any mass populated country produces quantity rather than quality!

The articles sounds idiotic.

China's universities are better than India's universities.

wats up with these pakistanis...its a topic about india and china...but these people start their apology for china.....astounding...

Can u tell me
If a guy published 10 papers and that papers got 10 citation collectively for 3 papers .

Another one published 3 papers among them 2 papers cumulatively got 9 citation means the former is the best??

CHINA 5,191,358/836,255 = 6.21
