PS Oh, if you think Goan Christians talk in an Anglo-Indian way, I have a nasty surprise for you. There is a member of the forum who has a very abrupt way of persuasion, and may take the time and trouble to 'persuade' you. You DON'T want to meet him.

The Goan Christians I've had the coincidence of talking to talk in a very distinct way. Call it Bombay-esque. Lots of y'alls and sentences ending with only. Not Anglo Indian in the least but very South and reminiscent of Kerala or Sri Lanka. But very distinctive from a Gangetic belt Indian.

I think that any member who is curious about another member's origin or life experiences etc should refrain from bringing up these questions on the main forum, and instead create a new thread or tag the member in existing threads in the Members Club section.

If you are generally curious and polite, most people won't mind sharing their life experiences and why they think a certain way or have certain beliefs.

When I first started on this forum, most people used my introduction thread to ask me these kinds of questions (or I would direct them to it) given my forum name.

It's perceptions. @Secularindian doesn't sound north Indian to me; he is quite possibly a Konkani; they sound, and read, like Maharashtrians.

We (Pakistanis) have some pretty derogatory terms for certain communities. Had to admonish some of my own family members for using them, which they don't any more, at least not around me.

Remnants of the caste system. Hard to shake away. Mirasi and kanjar were originally castes. Of musicians and nomads. Now they've become insults.
