The first-ever Thar Science Festival kicked off at Mithi's Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Cultural Complex on Wednesday.

A collaboration of Thar Education Alliance, Alif Ailan and others, the two-day festival aims at encouraging the region's students to focus on science and mathematics.

Deputy Commissioner Thar Dr Abdul Hafeez Siyal, chief of Thar Education Alliance's Partab Shivani and Chief Monitoring Officer Thar Samiullah Sanjarani inaugurated the event, as students from around 73 schools — both government and private — exhibited their miniature scientific models.

The festival attracted thousands of students, teachers, entrepreneurs, science specialists, government officials and local political leaders.

Organisations such as Learn-o-Bots, Advon, Science Fuse, Robotech and Pakistan Science Foundation also conducted live experiments at the event in order to boost the interest of Thar's students in science.
