Bro, we as Muslims need to understand how dangerous shirk is.
shirk is hands down, the most dangerous and the easiest sin to fall into.

Dangerous because it is unforgivable.
Easiest because it just has to happen inside your heart, you don't even have to act on it! Even if you start putting your own customs and traditions above Allah's commands, guess what...SHIRK HO GIYA!

I'll give you a personal life example that I saw first hand here...here in the u.s. I new of an afghan girl who wanted to marry a Pakistan man. Her parents stopped her and threatened to disown her PURELY because he was a Pakistani. Nothing else was wrong with him, good Muslim (both are sunnis), good family, good education, good career (an engineer for goodness sakes), owned two houses if I remember correctly. But ONLY because he was a Pakistani from punjab. Their daughter was pressured into not marrying him. The heart aches and sorrow aside, I am 100% convinced that they committed shirk. Because Allah dictates that all Muslims are next of kin and yet, they threw down the most ugly gauntlet imaginable...discrimination against a Muslim purely out of ethnic hatred and in their hatred for Pakistanis, they completely disregarded not only what they are disobeying but also WHO they are disobeying.
