IAF to trial American F-16, Swedish Gripen for 120-jet Make in India project to replace MiGs

We all know the similar deal what happened with MMRCA u waste time and money of other parties end up buying 36 and still want some more discount which is not for a supplier to sell
It almost takes 10 years to buy merely 36 Rafales.

Yet to be inducted

Strength Right Now
Mig-29 - 69
Miraj-2000 - 50
Jaguars -145 (66+50+145 = 261)
Mig-21 - 245
Sukhoi-30 - 230
Mig-27 - 87
------------
Total - 803 (803/20 = 40 squadron)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2018

Mirag-2000 + Mig-29 + Jaguars - 261
Su-30 - 235 (estimated)
Mig-21 - 132 (wiki bison to be retired and 132 will remain)
LCA - 20
-----------
Total - 648 (648/20= 32.4 Squadrons)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2020

Miraj, mig-29 and Jags - 261
Su-30 - 272
LCA - 40
Mig-21 - 132
---------------
Total-705 (705/20 = 35.25 Squadrons)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2022

Miraj, Mig-29 and Jags - 261
Su-30 - 272
LCA-100
Rafale - 36
-----------------------
669 (669/20 = 33.45 Squdrons)

* the calculations above are estimated and considering the figures shown in the wikipedia active indian airforce aircraft and other details.
* The loss of aircraft or new contracts are not taken into consideration and figures are on base on details currently available
* Squadrons are calculated by 20 planes per squadrons, which can be 16 or 18 too, but here its calculated as per 20 planes per squadrons.

So considering the above figures (Estimated) it could be presumed that After retiring mig-21 bison class only 132 migs-21 will remain and (245-132=113) the 113 planes would be imediately retired. except gov. and airforce keep it in inventories and only 40 squadrons will remain.

In 2018 all Mig-27 totally 87 would be retired and 20 LCA would be added make the loss of 67 aircrafts in total inventory and squadron will remain only up to 32 (32.4)

In 2022 all remaining mig-21 would be retired and 100 LCA and 36 Rafale would be in inventory loss of 132 planes and will make squadrons down to only 33 (33.45) squadrons.

By 2030 all Miraj-2000, Mig-29 and Jaguars will retired and till that there will be reduction of all 261 jets, if AMCA would not build enough in number by that time, or some new number will be bought we shall have to again make some MMRCA competition. we have to complete AMCA earliar and if all test are complete by the 2025 within 5 years we have to induct 261 jets. so 261/5 = 52.2 per year in production ? so Long planning immediate making and testing of AMCA is also needed for save the DECADE of the Airforce.

The need of the other contenders and not to see LCA mk-2 is because HAL is not capable to built the all 245 or nearer to 200 small jets in place of the mig-21.

If India goes and inducts 120 f16 block 70

And with 123 mark one tejas a also started prioduction

AND OVER 350
mki and Rafael mirage2000/5

I recommend scrapping everything else asap i.e. All mig21/mig29 and jaguars some 400 planes

So by 2027

36/72 Rafale
120 f16/70
120 tejas

This is just a shit show. The MoD bureaucrats need to be canned in public. It is not PMO, DM or the armed forces responsible for shit like this.

LCA Tejas line will end with Mk1A. And it will end up like the Gant. 50 years from now forums will fight about the good old days.

The Indian Air Force will hold limited trials of the American F-16 and Swedish Saab Gripen fighter aircraft for selecting the foreign partner to build 120 combat planes under the Make in India project. The total worth of the deal is estimated to be around $20 billion (Rs 1.3 lakh crore).IAF sources said the two planes had undergone extensive trials seven years ago when the IAF was evaluating aircraft for buying 126 mediummultirole combat aircraft (M-MRCA). “We have chosen the two planes based on evaluation done by us seven years ago. For the Make in India project, we will now hold trials of only those capabilities which they were found to be lacking in these aircraft in those days,” an IAF officer told Mail Today. Sources said during the M-MRCA trials, the F-16 was not selected as it was found that there was no potential for developing the aircraft further while the Saab Gripen did not have advanced radar called AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array), which was mandatory requirement in that project. TESTING NEW CAPABILITIES IAF sources said both the firms have informed the air force that they would be fully compliant to the requirements now as the American firm has come up with a latest version of the F-16 known as Block 70 while the Swedish firm has also acquired the advanced AESA radar. “To test the new capabilities, there would a limited trial only and we are hoping to select and finalise the foreign partner within the next one year,” the IAF sources said. The 120 single-engine fighter jets would be used by the IAF to replace its ageing fleet of the Russian MiG-series planes including the MiG-21s and the MiG-27s which form the backbone of the Indian fighter plane fleet. REPLACING MiGs Almost all the variants of the MiG-21s and MiG-27s would retire by the year 2025 and the IAF is hoping that their replacements would be ready for induction into the service in form of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft and the 120 ‘Made in India’ fighter planes. The IAF has plans of inducting around 123 LCA combat jets as the NDA government recently gave clearance to a Rs 50,000 crore project to induct 83 planes and augment the rate of production of these planes in the state-owned HAL in Bangalore. Meanwhile, the Navy is testing the American F-18 and the French Dassault for acquiring 57 twin-engine planes for its next aircraft carrier Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC). Asked about the need for acquiring twin-engine fighter aircraft in the category of Rafale-36 which have been contracted for the IAF, the sources said India would hold a separate competition for those aircraft but only after the single engine fighter aircraft competition is completed. The IAF has 33 squadrons of fighter aircraft in its inventory, which includes mainly single-engine planes like MiG 21s and MiG 27s along with Su-30MKI, MiG 29 and Jaguar.

The Single Engine Fighter category will ata in fail.

Because Gripen will fail to qualify, as Leonardo is Black Listed

And

F16 will again fail to meet IAF's requirement for high altitude warfare.

It will only be Rafales, LCA and Su30MKI

Atleast with MMRCA , we are presently buying 36[Deal Signed] + 18 [Options] Rafale.

The present Single Engine competition will be a bigger failure as both Gripen and F16 will fail to qualify and India will be forced cancel the tender.

in trails and testing has completed over 3600 flight hours in 4 diffrent variants & over 18 prtotypes without any single mishap and has almost all the the benchmarks tested and retested like 4 channel digital fly by wire , HOBS , EL 2032 MMR , DASH 3 HMDS & HUD , Python 5 & R27 VWRs as HOBS missles & DERBY & I DERBY ER as BVR missiles tested and LITNING G3 LDP with Griffin and paveway 2 class PGMs and LGBs tested and also IFR probe tested under day and night condition which a certain joint fighter wants to have in its Blk 3 version :haha:
And after all this you Af still not consider this plane worthy of inducting in large numbers and going for another tender. this shows that what your teja is capable of.

Well the fight is for a replacement of MiG 21. The F 16 or Gripen if selected will be in the lowest end of the Fighter hierarchy of the IAF. If the IAF is going for the F 16 or Gripen then I guess investment into the LCA MK2 is utter nonsense. We must divert the funds and manpower to AMCA and ask DRDO/HAL to stop tinkering with the outdated LCA concept.

. .
Why obsolete aircraft like f16s? Even mig 35 would hve been a better choice if not sukhoi 35.

.
What I do not understand is why IAF needs one year to do limited trials on features it did not test last time. I mean 1 year seriously. At this pace we will be discussing this in 2025.

No need to be in a hurry, since they will not be able to get deliveries of the winner until 2021 at the earliest :enjoy:.
