IAF to trial American F-16, Swedish Gripen for 120-jet Make in India project to replace MiGs

tejas is far away form being a serious platform. by then all migs will retire !

Totally agree. It's build to inflate Indian ego and for parade. No more, no less. If India want to replace the old migs, it's doing the right thing.

Latest version F16 are coming to India.
F16 is a very good single engine fighter.

Along with LCA form a lethal combination.

India should go for F35 they form a good combination with the 4 LPDs that are coming.

F-16 would make a good combination with LCA. F-16 does the fighting and LCA perform in the parades.

@GURU DUTT Guru bhai. How are you? Long time. No See!

Seems so. Yes.
But we'll get LM to manufacture F16's in India.

Under Trump, LM will not go any anywhere except stay stateside. Modi and India will just have to suck it up and buy made in America.

Your trolling knows no limits!

i have a question from indian members why not another assembly line for tejas instead of f16
down the line after 20 years we will still float another tender if we dont go indigenous way
duniya ke saare plane ka theka le rakha hai hamne siwaaai apne

Read between the lines. India regards LCA as a fail project. Otherwise, this tender won't even begin.

Say's who! We always have gripen. No F16 if not Made in India. Swedes are ready to do so.

Facts are not trolling. It's the government of India that label LCA as a failed project via its action of field a tender for the same class of plane as LCA. In effect, it's says no to LCA.

Nope, India will choose LM and at last moment, Trump will prevent the moving of LM assembly line. Also, Trump will force Saab not to set up an assembly line by withholding the GE engine. So India will support and import F-16s made in the USA:usflag:

You clearly don't understand shyte.

Your personal attack prove my point.

The original timeplan says decision in 2021, so if the Republicans do not impeach his *** before,
he is likely to be out of the WH, by 20 January 2021.
Why would the US want Indias defense to be weaker by selecting a plane
which even LM F-16 test pilots feel are inferior to the Gripen?

Ah like china still has hundreds of obsolete J-7s ?They have it to make up numbers.
Same the case for Jf-17 and same will be case for LCA.It will be cheap point defence fighter that can neutralize jf-17s and with AWACS support take on larger fighters too.Already 123 are on order. But because we have huge numbers of planes going out and HAL has shit production rate and can't produce enough LCAs in time we need more.
Now i have serious reservations about not buying more rafales and getting this, but i feel the winner of this will not just replace the fighters going out but by the time deliveries are completed mig-29s and jaguars will be reaching the end of their service lives and these will fill in as more LCA and 5th gen come online.India doesn't have to buy anything if it doesnt want to.

Congressman working for defense contractors want to sell more weapons. Also, its subjective that f-16 is inferior. Since we have F-35 coming out, F-16 is dated. But for S Asia, it's still a formidable fighter.

Strength Right Now
Mig-29 - 69
Miraj-2000 - 50
Jaguars -145 (66+50+145 = 261)
Mig-21 - 245
Sukhoi-30 - 230
Mig-27 - 87
------------
Total - 803 (803/20 = 40 squadron)

You should even add IAF trainers and then you know the numbers will be more .

Indian Air Force ground crew work on a BAE system HAWK MK 132 advance jet trainer aircraft at the Bidar Air Force station in Karnataka State.

The aircraft is capable of carrying 3000 kilograms of weapons consisting of air-to-air missiles; air-to-surface missiles; air-to-surface rocket and bombs.

Your state creates a lot of hype for aircraft related purchases but delivers much less.

You wanted to induct 120 MRCA and settled for only 36 Rafaele with deliveries going past 2020. Lame.

Buy something in big numbers and then talk.

And keep one thing in mind - European states are not in the position to cater to big orders on time. But Americans have the infrastructure and capability.

I don't get the infatuation with Rafaele and Gripen by the way. Look for a supplier who can fulfill all needs exclusively without sourcing parts from other states and in a shorter span of time.

In reality its United States of America Military who are safeguarding European nations security but racism even within the wider alliance is becoming problem for United States of America and European nation Establishment policy is clearly visible when its about Ukraine. European Establishments can't play the racial card any more because the Militaries of Republic of India, Republic of Turkey, GCC, Arab League, Japan, South Korea, Phillipines, Malaysia, Indonesia, African nations is counted then the balance of power is clearly visible and all these nations are allied with United States of America.

The Believers are prepared against all odds. Masiheens are well prepared. 1912 and 1916 , we havnt forget.

Of course it is subjective, but the fact that the opinion is coming from an F-16 expert working for
the company making the F-16 makes it a bit credible.

Somehow, it seems like the Indian Air Force has bought enough Su-30MKI to allow it to talk then, LOL.

Exactly why would the capacity of an American product line matter when it will not be producing the fighter?
The fighter will be produced in India.

Why do You think Boeing is asking SAAB for help with the T-X project?

The estimated cost of developing the Gripen E is 2B$.
The estimated cost of developing the F-35 is 50B$.
Why is it better to not source components from abroad?
