IAF to Buy 83 more Tejas fighters from HAL instead of foreign jets, CDS Rawat says

Disagree completely.

Even if now India has more money to improve Tejas, HAL will never be as good as US/Euro jets. So now India will spend the same budget from MMRCA program on Tejas which is inferior to anything from MMRCA. This is a clear win for Pakistan whichever way you look at it. Not only does Pakistan now save money by not having to counter MMRCA, but now India is competing directly in Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) arena where Tejas is just starting while JF17 is already in Block III and battle tested.

So now Pakistan effectively gets rid of MMRCA threat, IAF replaced US/Euro Jet with an inferior Tejas, and Pakistan saves money by not getting into a new arms race.

Maybe India would've been out of cash if they spent all their money buying foreign toys, but MMRCA was going to be a major issue for Pakistan, looks we dodged that bullet now.

Pakistan got 5 major victories from this announcement:

1. Western trust in Indian defense procurements is reduced
2. MMRCA threat is replaced with manageable Tejas
3. Tejas is unfinished direct competitor to JF17 while JF17 is already on Block III
4. Pakistan will have more JF17's than India will have Tejas since Pak had head start
5. Now Pakistan can focus on just JF17 and doesn't have urgent need to splurge on a new jet to counter MMRCA. If PAF does buy a new jet, it will give edge to PAF over IAF since MMRCA is now dead.
TJ had issues but doesn’t mean it was an inferior to JF-17. Indians were using composites body, US engines and Western technology in TJ. By no means it was inferior to JF-17 BLK 1 or 2. Now JF-17 BLK 3 is more like a tailor made pimped out Mehran. It will get the job done but It’s a matter of time before TJ will Caught up to it.

Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Dassault will be pissed that MMRCA was all show for nothing.

This whole fiasco reminds me of when Jeff Bezos made that competition for second Amazon HQ. Amazon spent a year hyping it up and made a bunch of US cities compete with each other to see who would give them them the most incentives to come to that city. Some cities promised billions of dollars to Amazon if they chose their city for new HQ. Everyone though a medium sized city was going to get it where it would add news jobs like Atlanta, Austin, Denver, etc. Amazon ended up selecting New York and DC which pissed everyone off since everyone realized Amazon already knew from the beginning what they wanted and just set up the competition as a fake show to see what cities were the most desperate to get Amazon by giving them free money. New York was pissed too and ended up kicking Amazon out.

Western defense companies will be angry that they spent long time competing for India which turned out to be fuss for nothing. This is the perfect time for Pakistan to make an offer to those companies and steal India's bid at a fire sale price.

Actual game changer will be jf 17 block 3 andcount Tejas Mk1a... Both will come in 2021 and 2023-24. Respectively

Technically, both are almost equally as same.

I don't count jf 17 block 1&2 and same as MIG 29, mirage 2000... Because they are not good enough in 21st century.

I think it's still a good development for Pakistan because originally JF-17 Block III was going to be competing against whatever this US/Euro MMRCA jet turned out to be. Now JF-17 has to compete against Tejas which is much more manageable. JF-17 was never going to be better than MMRCA but it is equal or better than Tejas given Block III advancements. All Pakistan has to do now to counter Tejas in future is to make more JF-17 and eventually Block IV upgrade.

How do you jf17 block 3 is better that HAL Tejas Mk1a?

As of now, even you don't know ! Let us be for future to compare

JF17 Block II is battle tested and Tejas Mk1 isn't. HAL will be playing catch up for a while until they can understand the capabilities of the Tejas while JF17 has already seen combat and feedback from Block II is currently being implemented to refine Block III. This gap will grow because JF17 is already well into Block III right now while Tejas Mk1a has yet to be seen.

I'm not saying Tejas can't catch up but right now JF-17 Block III is on top and will probably keep the lead over Tejas as long is it stays ahead on the upgrade cycle. JF-17 is basically a bootlegged F-16 but consistent advancements aim to make it as good as any Viper.

did not bother to read after

‘relatively low price’

100% indigenous designed and built, Teja is the fighter of the future so any given present times,,,,,it will be missing in action..

There could be 2 reasons for ditching MMRCA:

1. Economy is in bad shape and more jobs are needed to boost local industry
2. India got sticker shock and realized they could not afford it

MMRCA was ditched even before COVID 19.
Indians are expert in making excuses and bollywood twist.

remember.....ultimately .....India always wins in the end....at least on PDF and twitter...

stop taking any Teja news seriously....just smile and move forward..

Please read the definition of battle tested.

I am agreed on f16 fighter. She is a threat to IAF with missile range approx 100 km.

Jf 17 has to proof itself as of now. Once they will get victory against any aircraft then it will be count as battle tested aircraft

Jf 17 was responsible for bombing ground targets with mirages and achieved its objective and some of them were also escorting the strike package mirage 2000s were sent to challenge them but for some reason they didn't face each other because the pilots of mirage 2000s claimed to have technical issues that means they couldn't face JF 17 and don't underestimate SD 10A it is a very capable missile much better than French MICA.

If this news is true then IAF can expect some 72 orders for Rafale with in country manufacturing. That will be it.

Neither. India seems to be facing too much pressure from both USA and Russia on equipment purchase. There is no way it can satisfy both without adding more aircraft types to its inventory. The sane thing to do is cancel the MMRCA drama, buy more Rafale on a govt-2-govt deal and use indigenous programs to fill squadron numbers. This also reduces the variety in its inventory.

Save the money for 5th Gen aircrafts. India's AMCA will be a great achievement when complete, but it will lag behind in tech because of its late start.

India's Inventory Could look like this in the future:
Tejas MK1A
Tejas MK2
Rafale
MKI
AMCA
* 5TH G Import.
Of course, some from the current inventory will linger on.

Agreed! We should not waste our money to purchase any new aircraft from other country.

If possible, we should get additional 36 Rafale fighter and focus on HAL Tejas mark 2. Time line is very crucial this time now.

For 5th generation fighter plane we can wait till 2030..

Considering how much time it took to make tejas (40 years) I think AMCA will be in prototype stage till 2060 and mk2 by 2040

Yaar, why you don't understand that you need to have infrastructure to develop such a aircraft.

Even If Pakistan will start to develop their 1st made fighter aircraft then you also need to start from scratch. India was doing as same as assembling job from last 50 years but it would not help much.

If I talk about infrastructure then It includes: Aircraft design process, Wing design, Wing configuration, wind tunnel, Fuselage. etc.... I did not mentioned about even 10% of whole process.
----------------------------

So, now we have it! It will not take much time for any other new aircrafts in India
