IAF modernization to be completed by 2022: Browne

You are right that the IN is far better than any other wing of our Defence Forces but the thing is IAF in future (if everything goes according to plan) will be a force to recon with for anyone in the region.I would trust the figures given by them..they are working on it.

Yes i will believe them if everything goes according to plan !! They IAF went overboard in Tejas mk1 case though !!
But its ok, only the future can tell the status of IAF !!

In between what are IAF's preparation for war against aliens in 2012 :cheesy:

File a RTI (Right to information) rit:toast_sign:

Will think about it... But still busy in studies :)

Chinnok is a lost cause its simply not good enough.
Apache still has hope.

What are you talking about? Apache is a given- going to CCS next month, done deal. Similarly with CH-47F almost a done deal- MI-26 isn't good enough for IAF requirments.

So this is how IAf'S Fighter Aircraft inventory in 2022 will look like....
268 Su30Mki
126 Rafale
100 Jaguar
62 Mig29 Smt
49 M2K
40 Lca Mk1
60 Lca Mk2
18-36 PakFa

I don't think we will induct all the 126 rafales by 2022, first 18 will start coming by 2015 & complete by 2016, after that HAL will start the production with 6-7 aircrafts/year, this will peak by the time of 2018/19 at about 18-20 aircrafts/year, so at max we can think of 100 rafales in the IAF by 2022.

Firstly, WTF is a Jaguat? :woot:

Secondly WTH is a 18-36 PakFa??

Damn! My knowledge on the latest aircraft sucks big time! :undecided:

He mean Jaguars, also yes IAF will go for some PAK-FAs till the FGFA production starts as a stop gap arrangement.

+ guys there were news of 2 squadrons of aircrafts for our SFC, has anything finalised.

Thats around 720 Fighters , Dont know how the hell they got the figure of 42 Sqds from that unless we increase Rafale from 126 to 200

On acquiring 75 new basic trainer aircraft from the Switzerland-based firm, Pilatus, Browne said IAF will be sending pilots and other technical staff to Switzerland to undergo the three-month training on the aircraft as the ‘Pilatus-PC 7′ is expected to join the fleet from January 2013.

“We will be sending our pilots and about 75 technicians to Switzerland for training. They will be coming back after three months of training there. And from January (2013) onward the PC-7 aircraft will start to join in the academy,” he said, adding the entire delivery of the aircraft is expected to be completed by July 2014.

The IAF had inked the deal with the Swiss firm Pilatus to buy new basic training aircraft two months back.

Best part. It was overdue from a long long time. It would be great if HAL learns how to build a robust trainer.

By 2022 IAF will have around 37/38 fighter SQDs with 740-760 fighters in service.

I dont believe Jags will survive another 10 years.

I dont believe Jags will survive another 10 years.

~100 are being upgraded to DARIN III standard which is pretty advanced and euips these platforms with avinoics found on 4.5 gen gihters not to mention they will also be re-engined (Honeywell's F125N most likely) so they will last another 10-15 years until they are replaced by AMCA/Rafale.

jags are 120 in nos. not 100 + some mig-27 (may be 50-60) will still be in service but with limited role, so add another 80 or so fighters to ur total. The total no. around 2022 will surely be more than 800.

+ can IAF become third largest air force around 2022 after USAF & PLAAF??? that would mean leaving behind the Russians, our largest suppliers.
