What's new

IAF lost 152 pilots, 534 aircraft, in crashes in past 30 years

The case is, at such altitudes, you need a minimum speed to maintain enough lift to not stall. Maneuvers and other things require even higher relative speed to the wing.

So, the higher the altitude, thinner the air, greater the stall speed. Now, the problem does not end here. Due to the high variability of temperature throughout the day (freezing cold at night and ~20 deg. in day), combined with humidity conditions, the density of air keeps on changing dynamically, which cause erratic lift patterns, especially for aircraft with a low aerofoil (fighter jets).

To water down what I wrote above, a fighter jet will be able to take off with a long runaway run in morning and evening timeframes, at noon, it might overshoot the runaway with the same payload.

Ah, did I mention higher take-off and landing speeds (required for high-altitude runaways) cause more wear-and-tear of landing gear and frequent tire bursts ?
and thats where training and procurement comes in. does the weapon meet op criteria for the theatre you want to deploy it in ? Does it meet for all your theatres.
Training for what payload you can take off with in different conditions, and the numbers necessary to supplement in adverse conditions. you have all the money and should have the planning capability to supplement to the scenario.

indian weapon purchases are driven by political considerations than anything else

And The Indian military is such chuna Kakas that they can't express their needs to the political leaders. They happily accept bb guns when asked for a consignment of Insas rifles.

for indian leaders what is the point of getting weapons for which you cannot get spare parts ?

Very rude of you to post these pictures without even going to the dept of the incidents which are being depicted in these photographs. That evergreen one is perhaps the most misleading.
Goes on to prove how big of a troll you are.
About 70% of all IAF fighter crashes were from the mig21 platform , other platforms including 40 yr old Jaguars have a very good track record compared to the flying hours they've clocked.

PAF also had F-7s (Chinese version of Mig-21s, so arguably even lesser quality than original Russian/Soviet Migs-21s) for decades. Why didn't we see a similar crash ratio in PAF? A certain lack of organizational competency is not hard to spot in IAF. We all saw it over and over whenever PAF and IAF faced in the skies (with PAF coming out on top literally every single time, most recent being the 2019 air strikes and aerial combat over Kashmir). I am sure things have improved and the next 30 years wont be as bad for iaf as the past 30 years.

Indian military aircraft fly from cold mountains to the desert and plains. No other military in the world has such diverse flying terrain and weather conditions. Moreover the aircraft fly a lot and hence if taken as a percentage of total flying hours it is well within the expected levels.
Lol you're on high dude look Pakistan it has similar terrain and PAF jets also flying to cold mountain (skurdu airbase to semi desert of masroor air base in Karachi)

Get out utopia dude

fan fiction stories like that of MM Alam. PAF as an intiator of conflicts never achieved a single objective in 65 or 71. They were nowhere to be seen in Kargil.
Indian mig 21s were made by HAL which back in the day had the reputation of having very poor workmanship and were known to be building substandard products. Most of these mig crashes have been due to technical issues in the aircraft rather than pilot error. So it points out to incompeteny of the manufacturer rather than the IAF.
And why is that 70% of the crashes came from migs despite IAF only having 10-13 squadrons of mig21s at it's peak in late 90s and the other types had a far greater availability rate
