What's new

I need a little help here on Pak army

. .
The basic composition can differ at times.

12 infantry div has 6 or 7 brigades
Either 14 or 40th div has 4 brigades.

. .
Thank you so much :tup::tup::tup:
edit you've any info about how many divisions we had in 1950 or close to that year?
@Sarge

End of 40's and start of 50's

7th Infantry Div - rawalpindi
8th Infantry Div -Karachi and brigade in quetta
9th Infantry Div - Peshawar
10th Infantry Div- Lahore
14th Infantry Div - Dhaka

1st Armoured Division was formed in 1956 through 3rd armoured brigade in Risalpur along with other raised armour regiments (equipment from USA). Two more brigades (4th and 5th Armoured Brigades) joined it to complete divisional strength.

6th Armoured Division was formed through 100th Independent Brigade group in 1965, although brigade group existed in 50's. The armour regiments in 50's had 75 tanks each which were downsized to 44 tanks each. This helped raising 4 more armoured regiments in 1962, so 6th armoured was raised easily after 1965 war.

You forgot Gunner (I think he is @Icarus now).

I am keenly interested to read the responses. Does anybody know in detail what changes the Americans brought in? Did they persuade the PA to go Pentomic? Were they behind the huge build-up of artillery?
Since you're here i would like to know the same info but on Indian Army means how many divs they had between 1947-1950's their composition etc kindly tag others :)

I know that 2/3rds of the total divisions went to India and 1/3rd to Pakistan at partition. As for the exact numbers this involved and composition, you better refer to @Joe Shearer @jbgt90 and @PARIKRAMA .

I have a book somewhere with it....but I think its at my folks place in Singapore :P

No production till now. At start PA inherited a few. Then USA gave some in aid. Later China gave in aid. Buying came later.

PA started with WWII era 25-pounders which is 88mm caliber and mortar batteries. Later the mortar batteries discontinued.
There were also 3.7 inch howitzers.
Then early on received M-114 and M-59 from USA. They are 155mm and towed. Same era howitzers includes M-101 which is 105mm. Not sure which year they were received.
For Armoured Division, M-7 priest which is 105mm SP Gun was provided by USA.

The Chinese ones came later.
