How to sink an AirCraft Carrier

Gotland, They must have named it GOTHland :bounce:
after all its coming from Scandinavia :)

i found something interesting about this Gotland Sub.... USN leased it

Here is the reported popping up of the Chinese Song Class sub in between the US Kitty Hawk CBG, within range to launch torpedoes and missiles. It was by luck or the CBG couldn't detect it or did the CBG knowingly let it sail close, the high ups know better, but this article does refers the NATO guys that it was not a deliberate attempt to let it close, rather the other way around.

" When the U.S. Navy deploys a battle fleet on exercises, it takes the security of its aircraft carriers very seriously indeed.

At least a dozen warships provide a physical guard while the technical wizardry of the world's only military superpower offers an invisible shield to detect and deter any intruders.

That is the theory. Or, rather, was the theory.

Uninvited guest: A Chinese Song Class submarine, like the one that sufaced by the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.

According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy.

The Americans had no idea China's fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

One Nato figure said the effect was "as big a shock as the Russians launching Sputnik" - a reference to the Soviet Union's first orbiting satellite in 1957 which marked the start of the space age.

The incident, which took place in the ocean between southern Japan and Taiwan, is a major embarrassment for the Pentagon.

Battle stations: The Kitty Hawk carries 4,500 personnel

The lone Chinese vessel slipped past at least a dozen other American warships which were supposed to protect the carrier from hostile aircraft or submarines.

And the rest of the costly defensive screen, which usually includes at least two U.S. submarines, was also apparently unable to detect it.

According to the Nato source, the encounter has forced a serious re-think of American and Nato naval strategy as commanders reconsider the level of threat from potentially hostile Chinese submarines.

It also led to tense diplomatic exchanges, with shaken American diplomats demanding to know why the submarine was "shadowing" the U.S. fleet while Beijing pleaded ignorance and dismissed the affair as coincidence.

Analysts believe Beijing was sending a message to America and the West demonstrating its rapidly-growing military capability to threaten foreign powers which try to interfere in its "backyard".

The People's Liberation Army Navy's submarine fleet includes at least two nuclear-missile launching vessels.

Its 13 Song Class submarines are extremely quiet and difficult to detect when running on electric motors.

Commodore Stephen Saunders, editor of Jane's Fighting Ships, and a former Royal Navy anti-submarine specialist, said the U.S. had paid relatively little attention to this form of warfare since the end of the Cold War.

He said: "It was certainly a wake-up call for the Americans.

"It would tie in with what we see the Chinese trying to do, which appears to be to deter the Americans from interfering or operating in their backyard, particularly in relation to Taiwan."

In January China carried a successful missile test, shooting down a satellite in orbit for the first time. "

This story has been examined at length and found dubious at best. Who were the sources other than 'unnamed officials?

If the Chinese subs are this good, then it make no sense to advertise their silent capabilities because now the Americans will reexamine their fleet deployments and improve their technology. Aircraft carriers are not without sub escorts. More like the Americans allow the Chinese sub to come as close as possible and when it passed the minimum safety distance, the American sub 'pinged' the Chinese sub to the surface.

Well Sir, read the first para before the article, that is what i said, that there are multiple possibilities as nothing is clear except to the people concerned, that is the US Navy and the PLAN may be.

Here is the Answer .
China is developing an ASBM based on a variant of the land-based DF-21/CSS-5Medium Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM).You can see from the map.

.
its quite difficult to destroy a AC because its guarded with best of frigates destroyers and subs even the aircraft will be fitted with its own preventive measures it will have SAMs ,jammers, and shield to protect itself from incoming missiles so to distroy a AC we have first remove the ships guarding it

.
Well from all the above info it seems that the subs are the only weapons with substantial chance to take out a carrier

.
Since the US lost 10 aircraft carriers to the Japs in WW2, I would say that these ships are not invincible in a war. Japs used kamikaze tactics in an antique war.

If the Chinese sub captain acted on his own and surfaced in the middle of the American fleet, he and his officers would have been court martialed and executed for stupidity. Having a hidden advantage over the world's sole superpower is far worthier than a few minutes of fame.

Carriers have a lot of protection

Even tyhe gorskhov carrier itself will have new MIG29K fighters x 16

At least 10-12 Sea Harriers (LCA MK2 from 2015)

Awacs heli cover

The indians will almost certainly encircle the carrier with Delhi class destroyers

later Kolkata class Stealth frigates first one in 2011

Talwar class frigates

And at least 2 possibley 4 submarines.

EVEN su30mki with 1000km radius will provide additional air cover and maritime strike options

.
you want to attack an aircraft carrier with a fast attack craft......:bunny::bunny:

No he has a valid point please be alarmed for ACC being in littoral waters(which will usually not going to happen during mission) he said. Furthermore ground based attack batteries will be deleterious for ACC scouting in littoral waters and ACC will be blind like a bat. If ACC is in littoral waters the chances of anticipation are increased by many folds.

Littoral water wars are going to be future naval war scenarios and navies are now preparing for fast and stealthy attacks.

The discussion is not about Indian AC, rather any AC around the world.

a combine force of four frigates,at least 3 subs, some 4-8 missile boats(multi-platform tactical boats) for sea cover cover
and at least a mini squadron(10-15 plane) of fighter planes(FOR AIR COVER) can take out any group of opposing force's frigates, destroyers, missile boats, submarines
and fighter planes guarding any presume enemy AC carrier

.
Anything that can overwhelm its defense systems either with numbers, speed or ECMs.

But a small nuke detonated underwater that can create a tsunami type effect might do the trick as well.
