What's new

How good is a BLOCK70 F16 in comparison.

So Kharian.

You too think option 2 may happen.

IE

LCA cancelled & MMRCA ordered.. for $10 billion +++=

AND PAK FA project continued over next 10-15 years with russia.

.
I think definitely that IAF is not too keen on LCA despite all the recent achievements and is pushing for MRCA.

PAKFA/FGFA = Hi

MRCA = Med

SU30MKI = low

Time frame : 2018 - 2040ish

The LCA is not supposed to be an indigenous substitute for MRCA. LCA is supposed to be at the low end of scale as you put it. Putting the MKI on the low end is kinda unlikely because it's designed as a heavy fighter (in terms of weight, thrust and armament). Plus if it's on the low end you'll need hundreds more of them and this bird doesn't come cheap nor is it easy to maintain.

Rather, the MKI would probably be replaced by the PAK FA in the years to come.

.
The technical evaluation for the MMRCA is starting next month,so wait, the real MMRCA story is yet to unfold.;)

.
i would rather let the enemy have F-16 then super hornets. i just dont wanna see Growler in that package and even MKI and Super hornet package will be one of the deadliest in the world!

.
Look If some people here think, India is gonna drop some deals coz of lack of money, then I say Tatahastu! If some people say, MRCA not gonna materialise I again say Tatahastu! SO BE IT :)

.
Conversely, here is the PAF's potential order...

JXX = Hi

FC-20 = Med

JF-17 = Lo

The Thunder will be able to hold it's own against the larger SU30MKI once it has had it's block 2 or 3 upgrade around 2016-17.

I left out F-16 on purpose but it will be flying for many years to come.

Kharian beast,

Your avatar is disrepectful---I wouldnot want to see the star and crescent being treated that way. MK

I felt the same way, but didnt want to say it, because it will become and Indo Pak Issue. This has become the biggest problem for us muslims, We Protest, But we dont Reform. We ask for change, but we Dont change. Sorry its offtopic but had to say it. God Speed.

Surely the MRCA deal will go ahead, for the ToT if nothing else. India wants to be self sufficient and able to get high tech stuff from in-house, it needs the boost that ToT in this area would give to allow it to start realistically looking at becoming self sufficient. No full ToT from this deal then a top quality (or near enough) indigenous aerospace industry is pushed back by some time.

Getting a brilliant plane is another good point.

I thought the refuelers were 4
J-10 were 36:china:
Plus the f-16 number should be 78
60MLU A/B models + 18 C+/D+ model:usflag:
The number for Y-8AEW is 4
the number for Hawkeye -6
atlast 5 erieye i hope its six

LCA is a project that has been delayed for long time I remember the first flight took place in 1997 it should be put in the equation once it fibally enters IAF..b4 that lets look at it from a distance

MMRCA..is necessity that IAF needs because of the absence of LCA and most likely they will buy it..abt likely option it will be close fight btw Mig-35 and Rafale as IAF has expeirnce inflying Mig and Dassualt jets...F-16 i dont thin they will want to fly a jet that PAF has been flying for 25 years:sniper:

If they dont get this then the picture might be so in 5 years

230 Su-30 MKI:tup:
69 Mig-29
51 Mirage 2000H:tup:
100+ jaguar
140:tup: I think most of them can fly till 2025 remeber they r not the ones that carsh frequently
300 Mig-21:tdown: All types they wont be able to particapate much if u still fly them the carshing rate will be far higher than what it is now

Thats total of 590 active jets as Ex IAF cheif said 29 squadrons
The picture is pretty bleak without MRCA....Thus IAF needs it no way out practically
ABt PAK FA its not in the picture till 2025
F-22 first took flight in 1990 and enetered service in 2005
Thus its a long shoot IAF needs something for the next 20 years

about the lca,

well i believe that production of the lca and mrca will start around 2011-2012 at HAL, i read this news report saying that at the moment HAL is producing 80 aircraft per year (mki, hawk, and alh), but by 2012 it will problabably increase to 100-120 a/c per year. or the hawk line will be replaced by lca (both are small planes) and a new line will be started for the mrca.

so to simplify this

2009-2012 350 AC (100 MKI's, 50 ALH, 100 Hawk, 100 light helicopters (out of 397 total RFP after eurocopter lost trial) )

2012-2014 160-180 AC (40 MKI, 50 ALH/LCH, 20 LCA, 20 MRCA, 20-40 light helicopters)

2014-2020 500-600 AC? (160 MRCA(iaf will most likely order those 74 options), 200 LCA, 100 ALH/LCH, rest of light helicopters and maybe PAK-FA)

but by 2020 paf will have

-250 jf-17
-50 j-10
-70 f-16
-10 AEW(hawkeye, y-8)
-6 AEWACS(eyrie)
-10 refuellers

-250 JF-17
-120 J-10/Bs "36 ordered to be landed in Pakistan Air bases in Dec 09"
-5-10 Jxx
-80 F-16s
-12 AEW
-7 AEWACS
-20 refuellers

these are plans if everything is now if the economy goes back to normal Pakistan might try to get a deal with Turkey to get 10-20 F-35s and more j-10s

nice list but dont think we will get the jxx and same goes for the f 35 maybe sumthing different like euro rafeal or grippen after like 2015 or 2020

.
by 2015, our jf17 would nearly match grippen inshallah.. and j10b would be closing in or exceeding euorofighter... so no good getting these two western systems which might aswell get embargoed..rafale is extremely costly

jxx would be given to us because it is in the interest of china...but have my fingers crossed on f35[although our relations with turkey are blooming at the moment , they also have a 5th gen. programme]

I seriousally doubt it if US will sell F35 to us. Turkey maybe a partner in F35 program but keep in mind that US is still the main financial backer in the project.

I think it is possible. Just like F-16s were approved for the PAF in 1982, there is a possibility that F-35 may become available to the PAF. The way the aircraft industry is moving, F-35 capabilities may not remain the best kept secret for long. There will be countries in the Middle East who will get F-35 and if Pakistan/US continue dealing with each other the way they have, its possible that F-35 may become an option for us.

Also bear in mind that others will start offering the market with alternatives to F-35. The Chinese may have an export-oriented 5th-gen project being prepared for offer. The Swedes are very much able to do something if they can find partners. Obviously we know the Russians and their PAK-FA.
