How could India and Pakistan improve their relationship?

. . . . .
The first thing we need is trust and for that we need an unhindered engagement in talks. Unless, the governments on both sides show that they are committed to resolving the issues plaguing our relation regardless of what happens, it will be impossible to move on as we have been observign for so many years.

I think India can start-off by saying that peace talks will be impervious to terror. I am not saying that terror as an issue should be off the table. But doing so would deter the anti-India elements in Pakistan on the one hand and give enough ground to the government to take action. What has so far happened is the exact opposite and that enables these elements to get the upper hand as if they dictate the terms on how Indo-Pak relations should move. Also, include Kashmir as core issue. This will help even more than the first.

Pakistan, on the other hand, can start-off by giving a guarantee that no terror from it's soil will be directed towards India. Not just the rhetoric that we won't allow our soil to be used by terrorists.

Both can find several common grounds of interets. Economy, culture, sports etc. Let's move on them while we sort out the bigger issues. This will set the pace.

I don't think there is or should be any room for outside interference. The only party to this dispute is China and i don't think India will be happy to see it meddle. And it has often said that it wants the dispute to be settled between the two countries.

It is a long road ahead.Pakistan is going through an extremely tumultous and dangerous period of its existence.India has its own problems to handle.Pakistan will have to come up with a credible leadership sooner, than later,as things begin to get a lot worse, before they can get any better. What we can do,is keep the channels of communication open, and keep a steady equation with whoever is in power in Islamabad.Trade and movement of people should be encouraged, and that will definitely see some form of relationship developing.Unless there is a definite committment from both the countries relations are likely to remain at a status quo.If some cataclysmic event should take place in the interim however,we cannot predict what the relations would be like.

I would also like to see an EU type organization in Asia comprising of China, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Yes you are right. But i want to add some nation like srilanka, afganistan and maynamar.

And also want a millitry treaty.like if one nation attaks on a nation then the millitry of whole nation attack on this nation in simple like nato.

Srilanka is also a possible candidate but Afghanistan and Myanmar are not really major players in Asia. Criteria for candidacy may be decided when an initiative is taken to start such an organization. As for the military help part, we live in the same neighbourhood and both combatants in any war will most likely be neighbour states so which one will the organization side with ? That's why I think that this clause is impractical, military exercises will signify a major good gesture though, and will also help states to learn from each other and improve their operational capacities by taking benefits of the other party's capabilities.

How could India and Pakistan improve their relationship?

by being honest to each other & understanding the fact that some painful concessions needs to be made from both sides irrespictive of public openions of either countries.

Who really wants peace between India and Pakistan

1) People

2) Politicians

3) Defense Forces

4) Intelligence agencies

5) International military hardware suppliers

6) Major international players

I believe there are vested elements on both sides of border (and outside) that would not wanna see improving relations b/w India and Pakistan. The only thing I can be confident about is the people in both countries would want that (overwhelming majority that is).

Man Pakistan has refused our aid and people talk of reconciliation??
If you see the images of flood that are being shown here in Canada on TV, whether CBC, CTV, BBC, my heart weeps. But the enmity is so great that no matter what, we can never be friends. This is the stark reality you will have to accept.
Otherwise you all can go on giving your opinion.:disagree:

This is the umpteenth thread on this topic. Maybe we should merge all the threads and make it a sticky..

As for peace, lets start simply. Lets at least see if we can establish some peace here on this forum before we think of going the long way. Lets learn to be civil to each other and stop posting articles that bash each other.

And as for international peace, we have to have more co-operation and open communication. Media is always a powerful tool. Maybe some control has to be established over the medial, so that ti doesn't keep publishing articles that bash each other and spread hate. Any articles that openly preach hate, accuses the other without proof or belittle the other should be restricted, so as not to spread propaganda and infect people's minds.
