HIT'S MUHAFIZ APC PROVES TO BE A DEADLY EMBARRASSMENT

A horrifying case of gross negligence and corruption has come to light, which not only cost at least 13 lives of Karachi policemen in the infamous Lyari operation, but also grievously damaged the government strategy to combat militancy in the troubled Karachi neighbourhood.

It has now been confirmed that the May 2012 Lyari Operation had to be suspended with an unnecessary loss of police blood, exposing a mega fraud which was hushed up at the highest level. This fraud relates to the substandard armoured and tracking cars, the tyre-mounted and chain-mounted APCs that were provided to the police to enter the troubled areas with confidence and guaranteed protection and safety. But these APCs proved to be death traps for those inside.

Several policemen were killed inside these vehicles by low-calibre bullets though these APCs were supposed to be bullet- and bomb-proof. At least 18 vehicles launched in the operation were hit by ordinary bullets which pierced them, making holes and killing or injuring the policemen inside. One type of APC cost Rs20 million each while the other was Rs54 million per piece approximately.

The APCs were provided by a Pakistani company, Heavy Industries, Taxila (HIT), and were demanded by the Sindh government to fight the heavily-armed terrorists and urban gangs of criminals. The basic weakness of these APCs, also supplied to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, was that its protective shield was too thin and fragile and could not even stop low-calibre bullets as experienced during the Lyari Operation.

And when people here say that the only Pakistani institutions that aren't corrupted are the military establishments then i can only laugh at them.

I have got a feeling it was armor piercing bullets and not normal bullets. But if there is any negligence on HIT's part then they should be sued and a country-wide recall should be ordered.

It could be armor piercing bullet, keeping in mind that their supplier is well informed with Muhafiz . Well ! this vehicle has still did a unique job where its needed, Reminds me how 7 to 9 RPG had been continously fired on it still most of them managed to survived , just in a case when a CID officer had hitted in it during initial days of operations. otherwise it has moved effectively inside their territory and engaged with them repeatedly. why they doesn't succeded its another matter. Yea! not perfect but still a gud shield in such cases, their should be a different squad in Police dept when using this kind of vehicles during an operations.

which world do you live in mate....canada? no wonder you provide such solutions lol

was that targeted against me?
What else do you think should be done then?
The vehicle did not do the job that it was suppose to and because of that many lives were lost.

HIT denies Mohafiz vehicles underperformed in Lyari

TAXILA: Referring to a news item appearing in a section of the press on July 20, in which it has been reported that 13 policemen lost their lives while they were in Mohafiz vehicles, the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) termed it false, saying the facts had been distorted with definite mala fide intentions to misguide the readers.

“HIT is an establishment of the Ministry of Defence Production and not a private company. The operational capability of Mohafiz vehicle has been undermined in the report and, therefore, requires clear understanding that the Mohafiz vehicles provided to the Sindh Police are according to the specifications laid down in the contract signed with the Sindh Police. The performance of the vehicle in Lyari operation is according to the claimed protection levels,” the press release said.

It added that the Sindh Police had tested the specifications of the vehicles at Razzaqabad Police Academy on November 15, 2011 prior to their delivery.

The firing test was conducted in the presence of Home Minister Manzoor Wassan, IG Police and DIG (Operations). More than 200 bullets were fired at the test vehicle and the protection level was verified,” it said.

“No low-caliber standard bullets penetrated Mohafiz vehicle in Lyari operation and the joint investigation report prepared by HIT and Sindh Police verified the facts,” the statement added.

All 18 Vehicles (10 Mohafiz, eight Talha), which have been used and fired upon in Lyari operation, have been thoroughly inspected and claimed protection levels are verified. No police person died while performing duties inside Mohafiz vehicle, HIT claimed in the press release.

The material used in manufacture of Mohafiz vehicle is according to the specifications laid down internationally for the desired protection level. All material used is Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified and further tested by HIT, the press release further said, adding that each product of HIT is backed by proper warranty/guarantee as laid down in the contract with users, including the Sindh Police.

Mohafiz has saved the lives of police and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel throughout Pakistan in various operations and had performed according to its capabilities.

“The report published, therefore, is ambiguous, as the reporter has no knowledge of armoured vehicles, APCs and tanks and neither has an understanding of protection levels of these vehicles,” HIT asserted in the press release.

“HIT produces various types of armoured vehicles, according to requirements of the users, meeting international protection standards. Technology utilised in product manufacturing has been acquired directly from the OEMs. There is no role of traders in the production of the armoured vehicles,’ HIT claimed. pr

This media Propaganda and nothing else, How can they don't have FMJ bullets from the first page I am saying that ... even phillips a citizen in america got FMJ rifle how the hell millions of dollar funded organization not have that and since when this Mohafiz became apc , apc are armoured vehicles with atlease 12 mm of Steel armour or RHA. If our police has started this that mohafiz was the cause of that than shame on them being police officers they dont know FMJ could be the cause !! and if media propaganda than God will show them no mercy

It was mostly a case of the policemen opening their doors for some air, and resulting in a bullet coming in.

as expected MEDIA was brought by layri GANGS shameful

mohafiz got rpg fires and still police were safe.........

“The report published, therefore, is ambiguous, as the reporter has no knowledge of armoured vehicles, APCs and tanks and neither has an understanding of protection levels of these vehicles,” HIT asserted in the press release.

Exactly, Our media is getting more and more immature day by day , and hiring irrelevant personalities for irrelevant subjects, printing watever they don't understand. I think this time HIT have to go into courts against reporters cuz If they don't then media will continue to print rubbish as they are doing.

Considering it was Karachi.. where I was trying to negotiate the purchase of a Tavor..
I would not be surprised if you find "thugs" using kornet ATGMS next.

Tavor in Karachi..? Incredible...

The operation proved to be a huge moral booster for the thugs. Well planned operations will be needed like Brazilians do .

take a hint...
armour piercing ..

AP bullets are made to defeat the conventional and light armour. like the one employed by Mohafiz that is meants for conventional weapons,

there is conspiracy or fraud.

if Police wants a heavily armoured vehicle that can withstand the 7.62 or 50 cal AP round then it should be prepared to pay more.
whats next? Mohafiz missing the explosive reactive armour scandal?
