What is there to be offensive? Babri masjid was demolished isn't that offensive in nature? I would object to going anywhere in hindu parties as a protest to what they did to masjids where wer these hindu friends of urs when babri masjid was demolished, did they take part in protest with Muslims on large scale after all both live in one India! Again this is not offensive this is reality and you don't call reality as offensive don't hide brotha!

First of all this thread is not about Babri Masjid, its about neigbours celebrating each other's holidays.

Fundamentalist hindus did demolish Masjid but you just called whole hindu community "losers". How would you feel if I dig up some bad things done by Muslim fundamentalist and address whole muslim community as losers.

Well, you will have to search with a magnifying glass to find a Muslim not celebrating when it's Diwali in India.

Believe me, I have enjoyed 'Kheer-Kurma' (or whatever the spelling is) many times at eid. And you may lose your head hearing this - I know Muslims who take active part in Ganesh festival.

So, don't be narrow minded. Come in India if you wanna see Diwali. Indians will sure welcome you regardless of your religion.

First of all , belated holi greetings to everyone !

Holi celebrates the coming of the 4th avataar of Lord Vishnu or Narsimha ( Half man and half lion) . The intention was to destroy Harnakasypa, the demon king whose son , Prahlad was a pious Lord worshiping child ! Harnakasypa wanted to kill his own son because he considered himself lord of the universe. However he tried , he failed to do so because of the power of worship of Prahalad

Now, Harnakasypa had a sister called Holika, who was immune to fire. So Hiranyakasyap had Holika sit in the fire with Prahalad , but due to the lords worship, the fire consumed Holika and saved Prahalad.

Holi is celebrated therefore because of the destruction of Holika. It therefore is a HINDU ceremony. Muslims may be involved in the gaiety of it all, but they need to remember that is a hindu festival similar to Diwali, Ram Naumi, Krisna Ashtami etc.

As long as muslims know that it is a Hindu festival, they can make up their individual minds if they wish to celebrate it !!

BTW, the temple of Prahlad and the above story was in Mulsthan (Multan). Not sure in how good a condition it is !

I agree with Mr. Khan.

Grow up guys why you want a Pak seal of approval on all that happens in India. Some Muslims felt like taking part in a festival in neighborhood ...good. So why are we forcing people from Pakistan to agree or disagree to this.

There are lot of Hindus who will wish Muslims in all their festivals and take part in it .This is the primary reason we call ourselves human beings. I don't see why all are going over the top.

Holi is meant for Hinduism... and that is the fact historically. Krisna, one Hindu deity, first initiated this practice where Hindu history says Krisna played Holi with his innumerable low caste Goala (cow breeder) wives, who were known as Gopis including Radha, Krisna's aunty cum lover. I am not saying this, Mahabharata says this. Ask anyone who was Radha and get the answer. That practice later became a festival and in some parts of India, Holi is played as a part of a bigger festival known as Rasalila, a very vulgar type chemical love between Krisna and Radha when both dance in a fool moon night, now Holi is played as a festival but on different Hindu religious occasions in different parts of India as Hinduism has different characters in different races of India.

In some parts of India, Muslims and Christians are compelled or forced to play Holi because if they do not participate, they will get bad treatment from the Hindu majority. Of course, Hindu Media houses never ever cover such issues. This is the fact and if any one does not agree with it, she or he is a hypocrite.

Muslims celebrate Holi with Hindus in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, (IANS) Setting a fine example of communal harmony, Muslims in an Orissa village celebrated Holi with the same enthusiasm as the Hindus who in turn took their deities to a Muslim `peeth’ and offered a chadar at the shrine. Hundreds of Muslims celebrated the Hindu festivals of Dola Purnima Friday and Holi Saturday. The festival was celebrated by both communities at Fakirtakia village in the coastal district of Jagatsinghpur, 110 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, where it is being observed for the past 500 years.

According to legend, in 16th century Budhan Saheb, a Muslim prophet, visited Fakirtakia village and started celebrating Dola at ‘Dargha Budhan Shaib’ locally known as Satyapriya Peeth, a Muslim religious place, located in Birabarpatana village nearby.

After his death, the Muslim families of the village took the responsibility of continuing this celebration.

On the occasion of Dola Purnima, that is celebrated every year on the full-moon day in the month of Falguna in March, people take in a procession the idols of Hindu deities in decorated palanquins known as ‘Veemana’.

The processions led by village drummers and pipers halt in front of each household and the deity is offered ‘bhog’, or ritual offering.

On Friday, at least 30 such processions from five villages - Rambhadeipur, Naranpur, Rohia, Kulomindilo and Gateswar - congregated at the Satyapriya Peeth.

The speciality of the festival is that the Hindu deities are first taken to Satyapriya Peeth before being to taken in a procession to other places, said a resident.

“We love to celebrate this festival together,” Syaed Saukat Alli, head of Satyapriya Peeth told IANS. “We have been celebrating it the same way since the past 500 years,” he added.

“Muslims offer sweets, flowers, incense sticks, coconut, fruits, grams and other things to the deities,” he said. Similarly, Hindus apply ‘abir’ (colour) and greet the Muslims at the peeth, he said.

The Hindus offer a ‘chadar’ (sheet) at the Satyapriya Peeth while Muslims offer dhoti and towel to the Hindu deities. Later, the deities are taken in a procession called ‘bhoagkhia’ that begins after completion of traditional rituals at the Peeth.

Hindu priest S. Rath said: “We have been celebrating the seven-day festival here since long as a mark of respect to the age old custom and tradition of the village.”

“On Saturday, people of both communities move around in groups and smear coloured powder on one another,” he said.

To make the festival more attractive, both Hindus and Muslims organized bhajan and qawwali competitions at the Peeth.

As I told before, Hindu media houses do not deliberately cover such news, it is very difficult to give links. You must have understood this. Initially I thought, I should not post more on this thread, but as one Indian member attacked me saying "this thread has hit all time low", I decided finally to find out links and post here to unmask the Hindu festival HOLI as an occasion of Hindu fanatic communal violence.

"....Bhavnagar in Gujarat came under pall of communal violence after one person was stabbed on 4th March at midnight. More than six persons were injured including a woman in these communal clashes. This happened when one group tried to stop another group from taking out religious procession. The police also recovered body of a 9 year old child with injuries on its body but it was not clear whether he was killed in communal incident.

One person was killed in Chirli village of Gwalior in M.P. on 7th March on the occasion of Holi and 23 were injured of whom many were critical. The clashes between Hindus and Muslims started when Holi revellers threw colour on some Muslims. Knives and other weapons were freely used during the clashes...."

NEW DELHI, April 10 (IOL) – Indian authorities clamped a curfew in the hit town of Kalyan, 60 kms north of Mumbai, following Hindu-Muslim riots in which two people were stabbed to death and one died of shock.

The situation is "tense but under control", police sources said. Additional forces, including the Rapid Action Force, have been rushed to control the situation.

Trouble erupted in the Rohidaswada area of Kalyan after the body of an activist of Bajrang Dal, an ultra Hindu youth organization, was found with stab injuries. A mob went on a stone-pelting and stabbing spree and set ablaze houses and commercial establishments of the Muslim community, prompting police to open fire.

The mob also stabbed a Muslim woman who died later of her wounds. According to UNI, an official Indian news agency, a large number of houses and shops have been torched. No casualties have been reported so far in the firing. However, a couple of policemen were injured in a stone attack by the rampaging mob.

The focus might have been on Gujarat, which is burning since February 27, the tense communal atmosphere created by the extremist outfits has resulted in many communal flare-ups around the country during the past few weeks.

In Gujarat alone, over 800 people have already been killed, billions worth houses and trade establishments have been systematically destroyed and over two hundred thousand Muslims now live in refugee camps scattered all over the state.

The extremists have been threatening to repeat 'Gujarat' all over India. A number of such attempts have already been made. In Karimpur village of Baghpat district of the north Indian state of Haryana, at least 21 were injured when elements from the Hindu and Muslim communities resorted to brick batting on the occasion of Holi, the festival of spring.

Two Hindus who were playing colors reportedly got hold of a Muslim youth, and applied colors to his face by force. This resulted in the beating up of the two people involved and later on led to group clashes between the two communities resulting into communal tensions.

The northern state of Uttar Pradesh witnessed stray incidents of communal violence. A mazaar was reportedly desecrated and a copy of the Holy Qur’an burnt in the district of Bahraich by miscreants sparking off retaliation with a mob attacking places of worship, setting ablaze vehicles and throwing stones at the police. This forced authorities to clamp prohibitory orders. Nearly 130 persons were arrested.

In Rampur district, an alert district and police administration foiled attempts by miscreants to spread communal tension. However, two persons were killed and several injured in the district on the occasion of Holi.

The city of the Taj Mahal - Agra - too was not spared from the communal frenzy. Miscreants made futile attempts to burn the ‘shahi darwaza’ of the Shahi Jama Masjid, whereas, at another place in the district, stones were pelted at a mosque and at least four shops belonging to Muslims were ransacked on March 28.

In Rajasthan, communal riots broke out on the occasion of the Muslim occasion Aashura (10th of Muharram). Incidents of arson occurred in Gangapur city of Sawai Madhopur district after police firing on an unruly mob blocking the route of Muharram procession claimed the lives of three people and left about 70 injured. Indefinite curfew was clamped on the town to bring the situation under control. In another incident, desecration of a mosque in the Chittorgarh district April 1 led to communal tension.

Even in central India, the Congress-ruled state of Madhya Pradesh could not escape from communal fury. In Khandwa town, communal riots broke out between Hindus and Muslims. Three of the worst affected localities were placed under curfew and the situation was brought under control.

In eastern India, the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand were also affected by the communal tension which has overtaken a major part of the country. In the Keshpur area of Midnapore West district in West Bengal, tensions ran high after one person was killed and three others were injured in a communal clash March 30.

The communally-sensitive state of Jharkhand was not left behind. Nearly 23 people were injured, five of them seriously, in a clash between Holi revelers and a group of Muslims emerging from a mosque after Friday prayers.

The trouble emerged in Madanpur village of the Ichak police station, nearly 35 km away from Hazaribagh district of the state on March 29. Patrolling has been intensified in the area and prohibitory orders have been promulgated.

In the Western Indian state of Maharashtra, serious communal riots broke out in the district of Akola. According to reports, a Hindu woman was stabbed to death and her two-and-a-half-year old son was left seriously injured by a mob in the old city on March 30. Soon afterwards, police opened fire on a group of Muslims, killing three on the spot.

Nearly 12 people were injured in subsequent stabbing and firing incidents across the city. An indefinite curfew was clamped on parts of the town next day, March 31. The flare-up in Akola followed allegations of police inaction against people suspected to have thrown Holi colors on a mosque. Mobs from both communities fought pitched battles in various parts of the town.

The South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also had to bear the communal brunt. In Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, an activist of the extremist Hindu Munani outfit reportedly stabbed and killed a Muslim medical shop owner March 26. This led to communal tension in the area.

In retaliation, a few days later, a senior functionary of the extremist Hindu organization, RSS, was knifed to death by unknown assailants in the district. Following the two incidents, security was further tightened and more armed policemen were deployed in the area.

In the Hubli district of Karnataka, Hindu and Muslim elements set 18 shops on fire March 29, but the situation was quickly brought under control.
