Has Bangladesh's creation benefited India strategically?

India achieved it's objected by cutting paks economy and military in half however faces the issues of mass immigration not to mention the rising Anti India sentiment growing in Bangladesh however in a few decades Bangladesh will be underwater.

No doubt about it, the creation of Bangladesh is a major strategic achievement of traitorous Bengalis (who were excited by Mujibur Rehman's philosophy) and Hindustan. As noted by some before it neutralized Hind's eastern flank, hurt united Pakistan's economy and revenue, hurt the morale of the nation and armed forces, political havoc, etc.

Just like the Ottoman's were betrayed by Arab tribesman in Ottoman Arabia, Pakistan was betrayed by Bengalis in East Pakistan. Only a few remained loyal and for that they have my respect. Be sure, future generations will avenge this.

But, west Pakistan initiated an unjust war upon unarmed civilians in the east. Sk. Mujib was under arrest, but he was not even contacted any more by a bragging but brainless Yahya khan to make peace. We fought without our leader and won the war with the help of Indian troops. Yahya Khan should be regarded as Father of Nation of Bangladesh.

seems like bangladeshis miss united pakistan. well they can unite again. india wouldnt have had 20 million bangladeshis if pakistani partition didnt happened

your mahatma ghandhi would be sick to the core about the way hindustan treats many people. For a country that loves to claim it overcame oppression they went on to be oppressive themselves... in Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur, Bangladesh, and others

and then they wonder why mumbai-like incidents take place

Of course he would rather be Prime Minister of a United Pakistan rather than just Bangladesh. However, he did espouse and propagated treason and separation of United Pakistan, he espoused nationalism based on ethnic lines (Bengali) his rhetoric and philosophy divided the nation. His six-point autonomy plan was a step toward total separation. Now I also understand West Pakistani politicians are also at fault for negligent treatment of E.Pakistanis nonetheless you demand a change in Government not betray United Pakistan and wage a full fledged rebellion. Bangladeshis opened up the way for Hindustan domination of the Eastern flank of South Asia.

Six point was a demand that could not be achieved by the Pakistan Awami League in the Pakistan National Assembly convened on 25th March, 1971. A 2/3rd majority is needed to revise, change or rectify even a colon or semicolon of the Constitution. PAL had only a simple majority and there was no way it could have passed any changes without support from Members from the west. Wali Khan NAP was also in favour of a kind of autonomy for the NWFP. But, there was no strategic alliance between his party and PAL.

It can be assumed that PAL would not have been able to get any big concessions in the NA. But, Yahya Khan wanted a showdown only to teach the Bangalis a lesson. In that way he wanted to cling to power for a few months, too. Note also that Z.A. Bhutto wanted to be the FM of Pakistan. He became the PM by betraying democracy and dividing the country. Mujib was the last man who wanted to break Pakistan. He had no such plan. Otherwise, he would have hided among the millions and participated in the Liberation War.

PAL was an inefficient organization without any experience to run the administration of a country. This inept AL could have been ousted any time after a 3 month period. PA was always very strong. It could have arranged another coup at a later time. But, PA chose to break the country into pieces instead of waiting for another opportunity. Moreover, PAL wanted Yahya Khan to remain President for an indefinite period. It is the loss of patience by stoneheaded west Pakistan politicians that caused Pakistan's division.
