the story is stupid. pakistan allowed the US to inspect the missiles which is an unusual move but upon inspection they found that they was no modifications. also its worth noting that pakistan has access to missiles far more advanced than the harpoon so it made no sense in the first place.

PAKISTAN NAVY TESTS NEW GUIDED MISSILE

Sunday, November 15, 2015 - Karachi—The Pakistan Navy on Saturday successfully tested an indigenously built guided missile, said a spokesman.

The MT ship guided missile was fired from a navy ship during Pakistan Navy’s ongoing exercises called the Sea Spark.The missile hit the target with precision which was a proof Pakistan’s capabilities and clear message to forces of enemies.

“In an impressive display of naval fire power, the front line combat units of Pakistan Navy Fleet successfully test fired anti-ship guided missiles in North Arabian Sea Saturday,” a press statement issued by Pakistan Navy said.

Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI (M). Chief of the Naval Staff along with senior naval officers witnessed the firings onboard PNS ALAMGIR.

The missiles launched from surface and air units successfully engaged their intended targets with pinpoint accuracy.

Successful conduct of missile firings is manifestation of PN’s optimum operational preparedness. Chief of the Naval Staff appreciated the remarkable demonstration of professionalism during missile firings and expressed his satisfaction over thecombatreadiness of the Navy.— NN

Pakistan Navy Test-fires Land-Attack Missile
ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Navy has test-fired a new land attack missile in the North Arabian Sea off the coast of Pakistan this week.

According to a Navy news release, the test included “firings of a variety of modern missiles including the maiden Land Attack Missile (LAM)” and the tests “demonstrated lethality, precision and efficacy” of the Navy’s weapon systems as well as the “high state of readiness and professionalism” of the Navy.

The release also stated the test “reaffirms credibility of deterrence at sea.”

A Navy spokesman confirmed “multiple platforms were engaged” in firing missiles. The firings took place on Dec. 19 and 21.

Though the Navy has a variety of anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles, the Navy would not confirm the identity of the land-attack missile when asked.

Mansoor Ahmed from Quaid-e-Azam University’s Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, who specializes in Pakistan’s national deterrent and delivery program, believes the missile is one of two varieties: either a land attack variant of the Chinese C-802/CSS-N-8 Saccade anti-ship missile in service with a variety of naval platforms; or a variant of the HATF-VII/Vengeance-VII Babur cruise missile.

“Coupled with a miniaturized plutonium warhead, a naval version of the several hundred kilometer-range Babur [land attack cruise missile] or a 120-kilometer range C-802 missile can potentially provide Pakistan with a reliable if not an assured second strike capability and will complete the third leg of Pakistan’s eventual triad-based credible minimum deterrent — of which the naval leg was missing until now,” he said.

A land-attack variant of the C-802 would be able to be fired from existing launchers aboard Pakistani ships.

Ahmed however pointed out that M. Irfan Burney — chairman of the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), the research and development body that designed and manufactured the Babur cruise missile — witnessed the test firings. Ahmed believes that supports the notion that the missile was the Babur.

Burney was joined by Chief of Naval Staff Adm. Muhammad Asif Sandila, onboard the F-22P class frigate Zulfiquar.

The test comes seven months after Pakistan inaugurated the Naval Strategic Force Command. The Babur, once integrated with an operational naval command and control, “will help diversify the options available to counter India’s growing second strike capabilities at sea,” Ahmed said.

He said the Navy will be able to “strike critical counter-value and other strategic targets all along India’s coastline and maintain a semblance of strategic stability in the Arabian Sea.”

“Pakistan’s response in this field was necessary in the face of an exponential increase in Indian strategic capabilities, such as ballistic-missile defenses and the induction of SSBNs [ballistic-missile submarines] and planned $40 billion worth of naval weapons platform acquisitions over the next decade,” he added.

Ahmed said a “nuclear-tipped [land-attack cruise missile] is a readily available and affordable alternative for Pakistan instead of a dedicated SSBN.”

With an economy in chronically poor shape, the question of affordability and meeting the Navy’s expansion requirements in the face of a shortage of funds is a pressing concern.

However, after witnessing the test firings and voicing his appreciation of the operational preparedness of the fleet, Sandila also said the government was “cognizant of PN’s developmental needs and all out efforts are being made to address critical capability gaps.”

We did (BVR missile). It was called the red crescent. The info and the picture of the missile was leaked on this very forum by a TT or Military professional. I remember the post.

Remember, the F-7PG's are BVR capable.

The American satellites used to detect ballistic missile launches were replaced with more advanced ones 2006 onwards. These satellites, in addition to detecting ballistic missile launches, can detect missile launches of any type - including cruise missiles and AShMs.

I think what happened was they detected a missile launch from a sea vessel attacking land based targets. They thought we had modified the Harpoons, but when they checked them, all were accounted for.

My guess is that they detected us launching the babur cruise missile from our agostas or from one of our ships. This makes more sense when we see the reports of Pakistan claiming to have second strike capabilities.

I can recall after the May 98 nuclear tests, the US was able to detect the residue released in the atmosphere, how they did this I do not know, was it by spy plane or satellite who knows, from this residue they were able to determine the type of weapon that was tested. I really hope GHQ could take a leaf from the Iranians and blind the US satellites using laser technology.kudos

It is highly likely that it is a modified version of Babur since Babur is a surface launched cruise missile and multiple version of this CM are underdevelopment for various roles like Submarine Launched CM. It requires a few subtle changes to make suitable for launching from a floating platform.

Not sure if Pakistan tested an indigenous AShM, but we do have the capacity to design and develop one.

At its heart, how is an AShM any different from our Babur and Ra'ad LACM? The core components, e.g. propulsion and guidance systems, are the same. In fact, the one area where we may have trouble is in terms of developing the terminal radar seeker; still, I don't see why we wouldn't take the avenue of developing or at least acquiring the technology to produce such a seeker at home.

The main reason why we wouldn't have our own AShM (right now anyways) is because we can import from China.

Why create Hype? These are the first tests of Harpoon Block 2, both from surface and air platforms. This also completes the induction of Block 2 Harpoon in Pakistan, and weaponisation of PNS Alamgir with Harpoon ASM, and CIWS Phalanx Block 1B anti missile gun.

These tests are monitored by US Government and USN representatives, as these weapons were provides through the FMS package.

I agree that MT is just "Anti" of Anti Ship Missile.

Analysis of the tests shows that weapon was fired from PNS Alamgir FFG-260 and upgrades P3C Orion at a floating missile target. Both weapons were direct hit.

THis is American made and supplied Harpoon Anti Ship Missile. It is quite possible that Pakistan has made some improvements or upgraded the Mk1,the navy received from U S as excess material.

How come they could not detect attacking civilian aeroplanes towards Twin Towers,didn't they have sattelites then?
