Joint Gulf force the Peninsula Shield began a 17-day exercise in Kuwait on Sunday as officials said the war games were not related to unrest in the region.

"The exercise was prescheduled and agreed for years. It is unrelated to any regional or political events," the head of Kuwaiti army public relations, Brigadier Abdulaziz al-Rayes, was cited as saying by the KUNA news agency.

It aims at "activating the concept of joint defence... and implementing the unified defence strategy of the Gulf Cooperation Council states," he said.:partay:

The main part of the exercise will take place in the Kuwaiti desert, but naval and air forces will also feature in the manoeuvres slated to end on February 26, coinciding with Kuwait's national day celebrations.

General Rayes did not give details of troop numbers taking part, but did say the exercise would include units from Kuwait's national guard and the interior ministry.

Kuwait marks its 51st independence from Britain on February 25 and the 22nd anniversary of liberation from seven months of Iraqi occupation on February 26 in which units from the Peninsula Shield took part.

The Peninsula Shield force was formed by the six GCC member states -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- in 1982 as a 5,000-strong force but has since expanded to more than 30,000 troops.

Two years ago, Peninsula Shield troops were deployed in Sunni-ruled Bahrain to help the kingdom's security forces confront protests led by the Shiite majority.

Kuwait has witnessed street protests in the past several months by opposition groups calling for the dissolution of the pro-government parliament elected on December 1 after the emir amended a controversial electoral law.

. . . .
And this is the only achievement.

Though this act was not done alone by Saudi forces, a US awacs plane informed and led the saudi fighters.
Also, the F15 is superior to the Mirage F1, we all know this.

Reread my comment, where was Gulf force in 1990 ?
Waiting for the US + NATO to defend them.

( watch video of Muammar Gaddafi speaking the same, unfortunately cannot post vid links yet ).

put this in youtube and watch what the soldier/marine says at the end from 5:45 LOL.

"This was a saudi victory WITH OUR SUPPORT"
"The Iraqis as you well know are repeated to be the biggest and the best military in the middle east"

Conclusion : Saudi arabia without the US is simply nothing, it would be overrun in 1990 by Iraq easily.
:D

All saudis before you claim any triumph over the iraqi forces in 1990, thank the US and their military which has done all the work while you ran behind them.

in 1988-1990, the only Arab country with a comparable military to Iraq was Egypt.

. .
hehehee

In Kuweit .. close enough to Iran !

Haha. Some Iranians are already angry as you can see. They can bark all they want Kuwait is Arab land and we have a right to make exercises there when Iran is doing that in the Arabian Gulf already and provoking several Arab countries.

I bet PressTV is already reporting nonsense but "sadly" I can't catch the channel in the US.

Yes, Iraq was so great that people were starving in 1980's and people all loved the government. Iraq is a failed and artificial country that was founded by the British and any nationalism is just hilarious. You guys don't even know who you are. Arab, some fairytales of being Sumerians, Shia, Sunni, Persian, Turkic whatever.

Look how many times was Iraq destroyed by foreigners and how many times have Saudi Arabia been destroyed/attacked? Should you not worry about your own country? The Kurds will separate and you loss more land and people. And the Sunnis are not happy with your Iranian backed government as seen by protests reported in international and Arab media.

Keep making jokes here.

And you said it "was", past tense, and now enough with your childish attitude, Saddam made the biggest mistake and Kuwaitis made him pay for it. Both of you were vindictive and mean toward eachothers.

.
Still you were trying to hard to be Iraqi and fit in, If you want to talk about history and achievements KSA is uncomparable to Iraq or Iran, simple facts.

It is funny. The same Saddam was a American invention supported and paid off by the Americans in the beginning until they turned against him. The same guy was sucking up to the Gulf States and we gave Iraq billions of dollars to fight Iran. A fight they themselves started. Now they blame us for attacking Iran and crying about paying debts.

It's funny. Most Iraqis I have met and know dislike Saddam but some of them brag about his achievements. Only when it suits them they brag about him.

Personally I do not like nor dislike Saddam but I pity him ruling his bunch back in the day.

You can brag about your useless history all you want. KSA and Yemen or the Arabian Peninsula have nobody to envy when it comes to history. Yemen and Southern KSA, Hejaz included, is one of the most ancient areas in the world and the first civilization outside of Africa was in the Arabian Peninsula.

All Semitic people and their civilizations are from our area originally.

He has shortcomings, but he has never been an American puppet.
