Greek crisis to hurt Hellenic Air Force

why is europe helping greece so much obviously for euro but are they dumb giving so much money at the end what are they gna get back?

I hope we - on both sides of the divide - learn that lesson in the Indian Subcontinent too !

That's a positive thought. But the Greek-Turk relation is very different from ours apart from the level of complications that is different for them and us. What's more Greece and Turkey are in NATO so hopes of peace would come much better.

Actually, Greece never had the intention to match Turkey, at least i think so..Logically its possible but very source consuming thing to do for her..What Greece did in the last few decades is, they tried to pack quite powerful punch to menace her oppressor* (in this case, its Turkey)..They made sure that whoever attacks Greece will get hurt too..But this economic crisis really hit them hard..Now, while Turkey is arming herself like there is no tomorrow, Greece will focus on economic crisis for at least 10 years and this will really increase the existing gap between Turkish-Greek military balance..And believe me this is not for the benefit of Europe..Now i wonder what will they do about it? Any opinions? I would like to hear your opinion too amalakas

* : Greek expression, not mine

Exactly as you said for the first part.

Noone denies that Turkey is doing fine while Greece is struggling. I am not so sure if however the current events are something that Turkey should be happy about.

Greece & Turkey have been a very very powerful bipole in the region for the last 30 years. Greece is not only a weakened economy but something far more sinister now.

Greece has essentially relinquished sovereignty to Germany / France / Holland. It is clear that aside from managing Greece's finances in order to get their money back these 3 powers will treat Greece's resources as their own in order to get the maximum benefit out of them.
they have already started assigning the best of Greece's land and mineral resources to their own companies (if these sound like colonisation, it is because that's what it is) .

How calmly do you think the dutch/French/Germans react to Turkey's little regional policies if they disrupt their plans? Turkish members in this forum have on a number of occasion claimed that if Greece has oil in the Aegean Turkey should take it ( an expression of bravado). Let me use this as a simplistic approach tool.

If Turkey had a chance to ''take it'' against Greece, how much of a chance it has against Germany and the fact germany controls the EU?

Things are not as easy as they seem. There are a lot of complications coming along the way.
Nobody knows what is coming. Nobody.

The technological gap been created between Greece and Turkey during the crisis is undeniable.
However, it is nothing I am afraid for my turkish friends that cannot be reversed within a single week. It has been done in the past.

Greece can always be re-armed in ''moments'' by the powers that be if they want to. In that case Turkey will have the problem (Greece obviously will have a training issue ), because Turkey will be subject to normal equipment times and supply of its own means, however Greece will have instant access to ready made arms and equipment with no delay and no cost (for that moment in time).

Some people saw the US donation of 400 M1 A1 tanks to Greece as a meaningless event. Far from it.

the US is critically worried about the germanisation of one of US's most steady allies in the region (Greece). Greece is being dominated by the german arms market. With one simple donation of 400 tanks they essentially cut Germany's influence in the Greek army market by 1/3. And it cost them nothing!!!! And they have thousands more arms to ''donate''. there are rumours that the next thing to come our way in the form of a ''donation'' is a large batch of F-16s and F-15s.

Obviously these are not F-35s, but they are very much needed nonetheless.

Cyprus Peace operation please

Are you blind, they occupied an entire country and only paid 100 billion for it. i think that is cheap.

We have peace for the last 40 years. ;)

True. It started as a "Peace Operation" though, until the failure of talks, then Turkish Army continued to move forward and occupied whats now TRNC.

I feel sorry for what you guys have to go through, we had a similar experience in 2001. I have no doubt that you guys will bounce back in time. There is a proverb in Turkish which basically translates to English as "You have to poke yourself with the needle first, rather than poking others".

My grandfather fought the Germans for 6 whole years during the WW2. I don't think he would be happy now they got in through the back door.

we can all just wait and see how this is going to go now.

nah no one would help us. not even USA at this point nor Europe! beside, it would never happen to us. thankfully we have a bit more smarter politicians and a bit more aware people than Greece.

and a different history after the independence!

I would not bet on that.

why do you think so?

USA is in it's own mess. and Europe wich has for years shown to be off no help to Turkey, for instance the economic trouble we had in the start of the century... who helped us? EU, France or Germany? no, we had to borrow money from IMF.

Seeing what is happening to us, you were better off, I don't think the Germans are up to no good. If you just knew what they are asking of us you would not believe it!
