Govt to set up telecom varsity
Post and Telecom-munications Min-ister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju said the government has a plan to set up a telecom university in the country as a part of its goal to build a digitalised-based society, reports BSS.
Weve a plan to set up a telecom university in future, he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a representatives conference of diploma engineers at the auditorium of the Institute of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) on Friday.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Raju said that the telecom-munications ministry would soon start selling locally produced laptop at Tk 10,000. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate this cheap laptop on October 11, he added.
As part of the governments plan to reach the latest technology to people, the telecom-munications ministry will make 3G technology available by March next year, Raju said.
The telecommunications minister said diploma engineers must take responsibility for building a digital Bangladesh. If diploma engineers extend their cooperation and work sincerely, honestly, the government would be able to build the digital Bangladesh by 2021, he hoped.
Teletalks profit has jumped to Tk 1.10 crore from Tk 50 lakh, he said, adding that diploma engineers can play a vital role in reaching modern technologies to people across the country.
Joint general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif attended the opening session of the conference as special guest while IDEB President AKMA Hamid presided over it. IDEB general secretary Md Shamsur Rahman delivered welcome address.
In his speech, Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif said that street agitations would not solve the caretaker government issue because the higher court has annulled the system.
He called upon the opposition to join parliament and place its alternative proposal for holding the next parliament election in a free and fair manner.
