What's new

Governor of Jakarta a Chinese Indonesian

What hatred?... it's 2015 now, stop dwelling in 1998. You think you the only one hurt by violence in that chaotic post Suharto time?

Guess what... In Ambon, Poso, Sampit, they shouted "Bantai Bugis, bantai Jawa, Bantai Madura, Kill all those Islam d*gs" and any other kind of foul words imaginable. And they didn't just shout, they did what they were shouting.

I actually don't like it at all to talk anything related to Indonesian ethnic violence like this because it opens old wound... my wound in particular.

I grew up in Maluku, I was there when ethnic violence erupted.

My father's sister and her family were nearly slaughtered when christian mob suddenly started killing Muslims in their neighborhood. They were lucky to escape alive in time while their poor neighbor didn't make it. But the house that my aunt and her husband had built with sweat and tears for years were burnt and razed to the ground. They didn't even know why they were attacked.

I have several classmates who found their world suddenly shattered into pieces when news of their parents and siblings death at the hands of christian mob reached their ears. I remember that day at school.

There are other stories, more unpleasant stories, I lost families and friends in the tragedy. I've seen death with my own eyes. But let me just tell you, you're not the only one ever faced such terror, mine is worse.

I never forget the tragedy, but keeping the memory alive and burning does no good to me. I don't keep my hatred toward those people who did bad to my family and friends.

I choose to move on. We all should learn from the horror of the past to prevent it from happening again.

That is why it is very important for Indonesian today to put national identity above their ethnic or blood, because if we still confine ourselves in our ethnic box the same tragedy will likely happen again in the future.

You don't keep your hatred toward those people, because you are all Muslims. I respect Muslim, but if any Muslim try to ask me to obey the Koran rules, I will give him a heavy slap.

What do you mean all Muslims? Do you even read my post? the people that did bad to my people are Christians. But again, I don't hold any hate anymore.

I don't think the hate is correct word. "Paranoid" is a better description.

Yah, Dayak are also Christian. Muslim in Indonesia tried to be calm on those thing. Madurese were butchered there. Even though almost soldiers sent into conflict are almost Muslim. (Sampit Tragedy/ Sumatra)

When the first troops at Maluku tend to take side and favor Muslim side ( first troop came from Makassar, Sulawesi), we pulled out the troops and brought troops from Java to give fairness.

Islam countries lack a leader, so Muslims lack confidence and use terrorism to express their discontentment. Only dozens of terrorists can break all stability and mutual-trust.

It doesn't what he means bro. It's not a matter of Islam Countries. Indonesia is not an Islam country. We are a Bhineka Tunggal Ika country who got wounded because of the religious and race problem. He was a Muslim who's feeling got hurt because of Christian and Muslim fight in our country in early 2000. But he let it go the hatred.

For the May 1998, yes. What Daniel said was true. There was a chaos that hurt Indonesian Chinese. But, should we always indulge the hatred and keep ourselves distant from the other ethnics? No. We, Indonesian Chinese know that. So we have to move on and promote the thrust in here. I know this because I'm active in an Indonesian Chinese Association in my town. We promote the Chinese culture and doing Social activities, to help the local know about us better, so their allergic to Chinese culture can be cured, and the thrust can be established between the Chinese and other Indonesian Ethnics in here.

That's why I asked Daniel what he wanted to let go his hatred.

I'm not anti China. In contrary, I help China with my posts. Because I know that China doesn't need to boast his own power / ego in front of everybody, just like a rich kid who boast his shiny toys in front of his poor friends. That behavior will not help China at all, as it will harm China's interest in the international eyes (at least in here). Unless you want to portray China as a villain in the eyes of international posters, you should understand what I wrote in my posts. If you think that it is anti China, yes, it is anti stupid Chinese Posters who harm his own country / origin. Remember Zhu Yuan Zhang, the first Ming Emperor. He said that the real winning is to conquer the people heart, not only to conquer their land or kill them mindlessly. Translating it to modern world, China need to be a leader and a friend, not a bully, or a Nazi / Japanese type of conqueror.
Okay buddy. Nice to know a kejia Ren in this forum.
Oh let's forget about kejia Ren. We are all Han. That's important!

Hate, Paranoid,.. I don't have it.
You are too much involved with religion. It's not like you're going to get 72 virgins after you die. You'll just be like every human being buried and left to rot. That's life. There is no Allah which is going to come personally and take you to heaven. That's all crap shit. People who you believed in, played with your minds. You should be smarter than that.

The bold one : Thanks bro. It's good to see a fellow Kejia ren in here :)

About the below one : I'm not a Muslim, and I'm definitely has different belief than Katarabhumi, I understand what you thought about religion, and I respect Atheist people belief (well, being Atheist is also a belief, isn't it? You believe that there is no God) :p but let us respect his belief. In Indonesia, we have "Bhineka Tunggal Ika", To be different, but still one. Means, let live together despite our difference. It also can be translate into that being Chinese and Indonesian can live peacefully together and respect each others, despite our difference :)

I respect your post completely. But I dislike people being cheated and manipulated in the name of religion. Me for one am a Christian. :)

you posted on this thread that there is no 72 virgins waiting for Muslims. Do you believe there is a heaven waiting for you ?

Of course not. There is no heaven or hell.
My post to him was to inform him not to believe in religion. At the end of the day, religion is just another money making gimmick.

But how can you claim to be a 'Christian' when you don't believe in Heaven or a Hell ? You can't just pick and choose what you like and claim to be part of a particular religion. Being a Christian, you have to not only proclaim but earnestly believe in the following tenets of the Faith:

  • Triune nature of Providence
  • The salvific nature of Christ
  • The doctrine of the faith as per the Nicene Creed
  • Doctrinal and Scriptural Truths
  • Belief in Heaven and Hell
  • The role of Angels and demons
  • The role of prayer and the reconciliation from sin

If you don't agree or believe in this, then you're not really a Christian, or at least a practicing Christian. Secondly, you should not scold some people if their faith differs from yours. Lastly, Christians and Muslims have very similar aspects in their faith, as well as the sublime importance of the relationship one has with the Divine Providence.

By your own mouth you state yourself. You are not a Christian then. Everything you said is contradictory to Christian Doctrine.
