The relation between Indonesian Chinese and the other Indonesian Ethnics are good right now. We even have the Chinese New Year celebration here. You should come when the Chinese New Year come. Both Indonesian Chinese and the other Indonesian Ethnics celebrate together. Even some Javanese Babies wear Cheungsam (I know that because I own a Baby Shop, and sell some baby size Cheung sam to some Javanese Costumers). The problem like in 1998 was a political turmoil. I suspect some political Entities incite the masses to do bad things. Including rob, burn, rape, etc. But usually it's preman (gangsters) and those Political Entities goons who did it. Because there were a lot of gangsters / preman in our cities, well... that's chaos happened.

Even in the heat in 1998, many Indonesian Chinese got help by the other Ethnics too. Some were even hide in the other Ethnics house. My family even went to ronda in our kampung (to guard / patrol our settlements) with my Javanese Neighbors.

So, in 1998 was not because of the race hatred, but stir by some political entities and did by gangsters and their goons to make chaos. But I don't know which Political Entities who did that. Some are point finger to a person, an ex general. But I don't know. I don't want to accuse somebody without any proof.

Its great to see that Chinese are integrating into Indonesian society and are gaining political say as well. It is a proud moment for me, as Japanese who has much respect for the Indonesian state --- given the history of Indonesian nationalist movement and the Japanese involvement --- during the inter and post war years.

Even in Japan the rights and high profile of Chinese people are highly seen. The Japanese of Chinese ethnic origin or "Han Japanese" are growing. Many are even taking political seat ! For example is Madam Renho Murata, who is a Councillor , a member of the House of Councillors, of the Upper House of the Japanese National Diet. She was born Hsieh Lien-fang 謝 蓮舫 -- born to a Chinese father , and a Chinese mother (her mother was a Japanese citizen, however). In fact, she is related to Mark Chen (they're cousins), the former Secretary General of the Republic of China.

Madam Murata is a powerful politician in the Diet, and is an influential member of the DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan).

Here in the Philippines, we also celebrate Chinese New Year, government also declared it a national holiday.

Like what I said, the relation between PRC and the Chinese Descendant oversea are not political. But more of culture, tradition and the sense of origin. So I'm an Indonesian Citizen

My ancestors are also Hakka. (Another Chinese member @rott is Hakka too).

But my family has been in Hong Kong for hundreds of years, so my mother tongue is now Cantonese, though my favorite dialect is definitely Standard Mandarin. (I just love the sound of it.)

In SE Asia, we call ourselves 唐人 Tenglang-ese, not Chinese. And some people in Indonesia want to get rid of "Cina" (Chinese) label and ask the native to call us Tionghua 中华. How can we be "Chinese"？

You are onto something here. Eventhough a lot of PRC members here act tough with their keyboard warrior antics, I wonder if they are tough enough to have this section become unmoderated? It seems like they rely heavily on mods to protect them. If there are no moderation in this section, will they still come here to type their keyboard warrior rhetorics? Notice these keyboard warriors don't dare to go on other international forums (because there are no mods there to protect them). Which is a pity, because some attacks on CCP/PRC on those international forums are unjustified (and can be easily debunked). Yet these PRC keyboard warriors are no where to be found.

The few PRC members that can actually engage in mature debate with good critical thinking skills (@Genesis, @GrandHistorian, etc.) usually don't post much in PDF. The big mouth keyboard warriors that do nothing but insult others, are usually the ones hiding behind the mod for protection. I doubt the keyboard warrior can win any arguments if this section become unmoderated.
