Now more than ever before there is need to not only revisit but also have rapprochement of some sort over the tragedy that happened in Karbala as that was the final trigger that led to division and hate amongst Shia and Sunni

The brutal killing of Hazrat Hussain Ibn e Ali ( RA ) and his family was a catastrophic event , one which resulted in divisions amongst the Muslims that even after 1300 years the drums of war are still being beaten between Shia and Sunni.

Leaders of the Muslim world should convene a gathering in Karbala , whose purpose should not be to blame and hate but one where tragedy of Karbala will serve as lesson , one from which Muslims should learn and once and for all bury the ill will

What Im saying , many may just scoff at it but it may be such an idea floated will flourish to finally bring peace between Shia and Sunni

This is stupid.... the present state of shiaism never existed until British made Imam Khumeni launched his own version of shism. What is happening presently started with Islamic Revolution of Iran, which followed organized brain washing in Pakistan.

Yes, visiting Karbala and Najaf is definitely something I plan to do myself. Wadi Al-Salaam too. Those cities were/are home to important events in Islamic and Arab history. It is especially interesting for us Sadah families.

Conferences of this kind would work better in Makkah and Madinah due to them being the two most holy cities/sites in Islam but combining that with trips to nearby Najaf and Karbala would not be a stupid thing to do.

Don't forget Jerusalem/Al-Aqsa.

Anyway rest assured that such scenes will just remain a dream/illusion. The ME/Muslim world is a lost cause unless serious initiatives will be initiated to solve all those problems that keep getting worse and worse and keep getting out of control.

:what: are you naive or you just trying to sell a propaganda by linking Karbala with sects?

Sunni Shia stupidity was not present at the time of Karbala.

The people of najaf bluffed Imam Hussain (RA) and when he arrived the support was never there. Those sissies ran away instead of standing with him

Correct and a very good point. Anyway there is no need to play any blame games. The tragedy occurred almost 1500 years ago. None of us who are alive today had anything to do with it. The tragedy of Karbala should serve as a warning and as a eternal call for unity and coexistence.

The further tragedy is that Iranians and supporters of Iran that is shias use that tragedy as sectarian tool to spread Iranian propaganda.

the tragedy has nothing to do with Shias or Iranians to begin with neither they have any right to misuse the greatest tragedy of Islam.

Whatever each side is doing then they should not take such tragic events as hostage. I don't know how any Muslim can do such a thing but unfortunately Muslims surprise me negatively all the time especially in the Muslim world.:(

We all have so little in common with Islam. It's like we stopped following it. I call it hypocrisy and lip service and when I say this then I don't claim that I am the opposite of that. I am a product of the ground realities. We all are. So I am not better. At least I can admit it while certain others cannot.

The core values of Islam have been forgotten and been replaced with sectarianism, hatred and the length of your beard.

Islam has been hijacked by corrupt rulers/leaders and terrorist groups. Forgotten is everything else mostly.

Karbala was a huge tragedy with lessons for all that even in the face of tyranny and certain death there is always a choice but I think this a highly inappropriate way to approach this topic. As a rapprochement will imply as if either the Sunnis or the Shias are at loggerheads with each other on the tragedy - We're not !

Just because the rest of us don't commemorate the tragedy at Karbala in the same manner or that we don't think of it as any more or less of a terrible event as the martyrdom of Hazrat Omar (RA) or Hazrat Usman (RA) doesn't for a second mean that we think that the terrible act of barbarity committed at Karbala was not amongst the worst examples of human brutality out there or that Hazrat Hussein (RA) 's cause to oppose tyranny and oppression wasn't a righteous cause.

Besides this Shia-Sunni schism didn't even start till long after the tragedy of Karbala with theological differences between the two sects of Islam; before it was merely a political disagreement between Muslims who identified themselves as Muslims and not Shias or Sunnis.

Karbala is only holy to shia and not to sunni, maybe Shia should make karbala the official qibla like al maliki from iraq said. this would solve alot of the problems between the shia and sunni.
