Germany to Pakistan: Terror for political goals unacceptable

Lets stay on topic please. I agree in Principle with Merkel's statement but strongly disagree with the venue and timing. If we are to resolve our issues with Pakistan then we should address them with the Pakistanis directly instead of getting others involved. It only hightens the animosity and decreases the chances for understanding between these unfortunate neighbours.

Well said. Considering the distrust between two nuclear armed nations, this kind of attitude would only raise the bar of tensions and will not help lower it. Pakistan and India have sufficient platforms to discuss bilateral issues, there was certainly no need for this.

Tell me how India influenced Germany on this issue?

I dont work for wikileaks or some other organisation that I can tell you how Germany was influenced by India and I dont want to make random guess. :coffee: But it is obvious that a country like Germany which never blamed Pakistan for terrorism suddenly claims that Pakistan is some how behind these terrorist attacks. . .

As Agnostic pointed it... It was taken out of context, and NOT DIRECTED AT PAKISTAN, Just like the EU Statement issued last week, not naming any specific country yet Hindu Times ran with "EU warns PAKISTAN"

... Well it was Hindustan times.. xD

Pakistan conveys its disappointment to France and Germany

SLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday conveyed its disappointment to France and Germany over the reported remarks by the French President and the German Chancellor relating to Pakistan. "Today, the Foreign Office conveyed the Government and the people of Pakistan''s disappointment separately to the Ambassador of France and the German Charge d'' Affaires (CdA) in Islamabad at the reported remarks by President Nicolas Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel relating to Pakistan following their meeting with the Indian Prime Minister in New Delhi and Berlin, respectively". "It was underlined that Pakistan enjoyed excellent relations with both France and Germany and that bilateral cooperation in all areas had lately been on the increase. "Pakistan was, therefore, surprised and disappointed at the reported remarks made by the two leaders," a statement issued by the foreign office here on Monday. Both France and Germany were well aware of the great sacrifices being rendered by Pakistan in the ongoing fight against terrorism. Therefore, incriminating Pakistan in the context of terrorism was unjustified and uncalled for, the statement stressed. Responding to the demarche, the German CdA said that the Chancellor''s remarks had been misquoted. Chancellor Merkel had outlined general principles of Germany''s counterterrorism policy. He assured that her remarks were not Pakistan specific, the statement added.
