A mass brawl involving nearly 200 people has broken out at Hannover Airport, German police have confirmed.

Dramatic footage shows brawlers throwing punches and kicks at each other, and using flags as weapons while stunned passengers fled to safety.

Reports say the fight, which happened this afternoon, involved a staggering 180 people, and officers used pepper spray to separate both sides.

According to news site Haz , it happened during a demonstration by Kurds over Turkish military action in Syria.

A tweet by Hannover police said: "According to initial information, there is currently a major dispute at Hannover Airport. We are already on our way with many forces!"

It is thought that the protesters were confronted by Turkish passengers, and the fight broke out at Terminal B.

Footage from the scene shows people waving flags as police surround them inside the terminal.

The protest took place outside the check-in desk for Turkish Airlines, NeuePresse reports.

Witnesses said there were more than 200 people, many of them carrying Kurdish flags, taking part in the demonstration at 4pm local time.

Some were chanting and branded Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a 'fascist', Haz reports.

Police spokesman André Puiu told Spiegel: "There was a spontaneous rally of Kurds who demonstrated against the use of the army."

He said the group clashed with passengers, and the mood was 'very aggressive'.

The protests come in response to military action launched by the Turkish government to create a 30km buffer zone around its border.

Intense fighting is ongoing in areas controlled by the Kurdish Democratic Union party, which the Turkish government claim is responsible for an insurgency inside Turkey which has lasted for decades.

President Erdogan has vowed that the military action will be swift, and would tackle militias in the region.

You cant go inside an airport and attack passengers, at least not in a civilized country.

First of all, the Kurds are exercising their right to protest, not attacking

Second, you cannot go outside your borders to militarily attack Syrian's Kurds (they are Syrians, not citizen of Turkey), at least not in a civilized country

Well..;China is not an exemplary one...when it comes to "free" protest... let alone respect of free speech...
And neither an exemple when it comes to "militarizing" outside her border either...

Yeah right, as if you were to lecture us about the right of protesting.

If its about national security then Turkey has the right to act just as China does.

Mind your own country about free protest.

Mind your own country when it blocks half of the internet.

Mind your own country's actions in South Chine Sea regarding "land grab".

Mind your own country's actions against East Turkestan "freedom fighters".

Mind your own country's actions against free Republic of China (Taiwan).

Mind your own country's actions when it invades and tries to grab Indian land in Doklam.

I am a pro China person and I actually support China on all of this topics. But since you seem like opposing such issues, you are either a hypocrite or not pro-China.

You want to hear about freedom of speech or demonstration in your country?
Dude go troll somewhere else,my patience with you is over, last warning.

If it had been the other way around then anti-terror laws would have been fully enforced given that the location was an airport. It is not a secret that PKK (a recognized terrorist group) affiliated groups freely stage protests and hand out leaflets in major cities in Germany, Sweden etc. Shameful.

.
You can clearly see the double-standards once again in this situation.

Germans, who will normally search even your underpants just let a crowd of 200 people with sticks and flags of a designated terror group through like that to go straight to Turkish airline check-in's to provoke people just because their Turks.

Ridiculous, so you are free to attack Syrian Kurds (not PKK) over your border, and they don't have a right to protest?

the fact that you even compare these 2 events show how biased you're on this issue.

In the small northwestern town of Minden, the assailants hurled stones and bottles filled with paint at the Green Mosque, which is run by DITIB, a moderate Muslim organization founded by Turkish migrants.

The name of PKK’s Syrian offshoot “PYD” and slogans such as “Afrin” and “Revenge” were written on the walls of the mosque.

In the eastern German city of Leipzig, sympathizers of the PYD/PKK terror organization attacked Eyup Sultan Mosque, smashed the windows and spray-painted the names of PKK and YPG, armed wing of the PYD.

The windows of the Geylani Mosque, which is run by the Geylani Foundation, were broken and the walls were vandalized with slogans related to the terrorist organization.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Ali Dede Tas, head of the Geylani Foundation, condemned the attack, adding that it was likely related to Turkey’s current military operation in northwest Syria.

Tell me in which European country you can gather dozens of people with sticks, flags and God knows what else and go protesting in an airport without nobody even asking you what the hell are you doing there. They could have taken a homemade bomb too, who cares, right.

Is it the Turks’s fault again that german authorities are not doing their job properly. Even in Bulgaria I am sure that nobody will let me inside a terminal with a big stick in my hands no matter if it’s before or after the check in.
