Well i was asked what most germans think about pakistan and india. To be honest both countries are far away and play no big role in our daily lifes, but they are seen different here.
Pakistan has a lot of bad publicity in the media here. Terrorism, Taliban and so on. But in general it is seen positive in germany. Some media here show an article that germany is liked very much in Pakistan and we work together on many fields. Military in afghanistan and other fields. When Pakistan was hit from the earthquake a few years ago, we collected money at our school and did spend it to help the people.
Last spring we had a huge flood in germany. Many cities were under water and it was much destroyed. Thanks god nobody died but it was hard work to bring back order in those cities. And students from Pakistan came and helped. They made soup and other food for our firefighters, who worked hard. They helped elderly people and filled sand bags to hold the rivers back.
I´m a voluntarily firefighter myself (we call it FFW) and in our area were 5 pakistani (2 girls and 3 guys) who helped us. The girls grought us food and the guys filled sand bags for us.
That gained alot of respect for you guys here...
On the other hand India...most germans see india as chaotic, poor and in very bad shape. Pictures are shown here with slums, dead bodies drifting down the ganges river...India is seen as a trade partner but not as a friendly nation. We gave India hundreds of millions for development and aid. What did india give us in return, when we had a flood??? NOTHING! ZERO! Even the small and poor Tunesia did send dates to eat for our firefighters. Tunesia said its a poor country and can´t offer much, but its the gesture that counts.
Nobody here expected from india to send millions of €. But they did send nothing. No indian helped here...
The only time when a few indians made headlines in germany was few years back. They went on a festival here and started to molest some women...They were hunted from germans and beaten to mush. They had to hide in a house and be escorted out from police or would have been killed...
That combined created a horrible image of india in germany. And to make it worse there are those constantly stupid games india plays in foreign politics.
That said, i have much respect for Pakistan and i´m thankful for the help we got last spring.
And for india: With friends like you guys, we need no enemies. Maybe you guys should show a better behavior to impress others and to win friends. I was never interested in Pakistan and India, but changed my opinion after pakistani helped us.

A love starved tweenager seeking attention. Momma didn't love the poor lil chap.

Its alright buddy. There .. I've patted your head. You can go out and play now. :)

Didn't realize it meant so much! Generally developing countries are a little hesitant to give 'help' to developed countries out of fear they'd be considered 'arrogant'

help is never seen as arrogant. We were thankful even for the smallest help.

Look here: Tunesia did spend dates for our firefighters to eat during the hard work:

Tunesien spendet Datteln für deutsche Hochwasserhelfer - SPIEGEL ONLINE

It may seem not much, but we appreciated it very much.

As i said, you can insult me all you want. My opinion stands and will not change. India did send ZERO help.

Germany is a great country. I have, like my countrymen have a lot of respect for Germans. I said it on another thread that @MarkusS started.

For me that behavior from india last year changed my opinion 180°. I´m honest...for me Pakistan was always some terrorist country far away. I don´t lie about that and i had no high opinion about it...But that experience last year changed the way i see it. For me, india acted like a parasite towards us. And i don´t forgive such behavior. From friends one can expect help.

And i don´t care if indians here go crazy now, insult and all that. Because my opinion stands now. I expect nothing from them.

India's behavior is not unexpected. @MarkusS you are in Germany. Each and every neighbor of India is tired of its overbearing, hegemonic approach towards its neighbors. I think Indians have extreme inferiority complex.

It was this 'holier than thou' attitude that Muslims of South Asia decided to carve a separate country, Pakistan, out of British India.

As you have started this thread, now see how Indians will react and you will know what I mean.

sorry man. I think it's more to do with our cultural interpretations than any true malicious intentions. I remember, probably during Hurricane Katrina or something- we offered the US help and that blew up into a big controversy. In any case our more recent policy shift on disaster relief help can be seen here:

Foreign aid? No, thanks

I see how they react. I won´t even comment it further. I stated my opinion and thats enough to say about it. Now let the go crazy about it, but i will not change my opinion. I see their behavior as not loyal. They get help from us, but did not help us.

On a side note though...I really admire Germany....and Japan.
Actually Japan more than Germany. No matter what their histories are....admirable countries.

German engineering education is darn cheap ....and very valuable.
Unfortunately there is not enough reverse brain drain for India!...Both my friends who had got for mech engg. will settle there:undecided:
