New Delhi: Less than a year after the Nuclear Suppliers Group waived its export rules to allow the sale of nuclear equipment, fuel and technology to India, the United States has persuaded the G8 to ban the transfer of enrichment and reprocessing (ENR) items to countries which have not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, including India.

The move, which effectively negates the promise of “full” civil nuclear cooperation lying at the heart of the 2005 India-U.S. nuclear agreement, took the Indian establishment by surprise with officials unaware that the G8 was even adopting such a measure at L’Aquila, Italy. That this was done at a summit in which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was an invited guest is likely to add insult to injury when the full implications of the latest decision fully sink in.

The ban, buried deep within a separate G8 statement on non-proliferation, commits the eight countries to implement on a “national basis” the “useful and constructive proposals” on ways of strengthening controls on ENR items and technology “contained in the NSG’s ‘clean text’ developed at the 20 November 2008 Consultative Group meeting.”

Times now, today reported this will cause no harm to indian nuclear programme,as the technology in question is already mastered by india.......still,we should stay carefull about american hypocrite policy........this development may also result in no mrca deal for american contenders,as they may do the same kind of backstabbing activities once we sign the deal with them.

democrats : lol i was laughing when indian media and people were abusing BUSH and saying good about OBAMA. now may be we undertsand - of course it would not have made no diffrence in us polls, but we sure made a fool out of our selves.

LOOOOL - it was bound to come - democrats dont support indian policy much. but it has to have a big hand from -g8 countries such as : OBAMA'S america, aussie ,china and italy. but it will not make much of diffrence to indian nuclear programme.

Get it right.
The G8 are:
France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, United States, Canada, and Russia.
I don't see China or Australia in the list.
They are attending by invitation only.

It doesn't matter whether it's Bush or Obama, US foreign policy hardly changes with presidents; only the rhetoric does.

It makes no diefference to India as it already has its agreement with the USA. India probably has already recieved anough support and this is more to put pressure on Pakistan.

actually, it is really good for india. now american face is exposed as warning that she cannot be trusted at any cost.
we have already came long way on thorium reactor based technology so uranium supply will not gonna be any big problem. they can put their uranium in their *** and detonate it:angry:

The retrictions will have no affect on India, she already has the technology and will still get all raw material and reactors she need. :coffee:

Also now iaf has only 3 jets to chose from!.....it wud be quick now, lolz

well as a show of goodwill India had agreed that our future reactors would be purchased from America...and I think that we have already made some dels regarding that....we should stop these deals from going through and use this leverage.
The Americans can't be trusted.period.

PARIS (July 11 2009): French nuclear reactor maker Areva announced new development plans for India on Friday, including a proposal to build new state-of-the-art EPR reactors and an engineering pact with conglomerate Tata. State-controlled Areva said it had submitted a bid to Indian utility NPCIL to design and build two EPR nuclear reactors, each with an output in excess of 1,600 megawatts.

"Areva's bid for the construction of two EPR reactors and these various agreements confirm the group's desire to expand its activities in India, one of the world's most dynamic economies which needs to rapidly increase its production capacity to meet its ever-growing energy needs," it said in a statement.

India has enrichment technology, but what about re-processing?

Anyone got full details of the ban?

With ToT, Rafeal should be the choice along with some MiG-35 ... BUT ... RFI for MRCA requires 30% Indian participation ... Boeing has that kind of investment in India which will play a huge role in decision making ...

There is no significant response form Indian leadership either.
