“ On night 18/19 October 2023, two fierce encounters took place between own troops and the terrorists in North and South Waziristan districts.

The first engagement occurred in general area Gharyoum, North Waziristan District; where own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location as a result of which 6 x terrorists were sent to hell including a High Value Target, terrorist ringleader Hazrat Zaman alias Khawarey Mullah, who was actively involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area and was highly wanted by the law enforcement agencies.

However, during the operation, three brave sons of soil, Lance Naik Tabbasum UI Haq (age 36 years, resident of District Rawalpindi), Sepoy Naeem Akhtar (age 30 years, resident of District Attock) and Sepoy Abdul Hameed (age 23 years, resident of District Multan), having fought gallantly, embraced Shahadat.

In another intense fire exchange between own troops and terrorists in general area Asman Manza, South Waziristan District, Sepoy Farman Ali (age 25 years, resident of District Kashmore) paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat.

Dint the army dismantle the Indian terrorist network? They said so not so long ago.

Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa

- 830 cases of terrorism were registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year.

- A total of 1,982 individuals were named in these terrorism cases. Among them, 502 terrorists were arrested, and 216 were El_iminated during operations.

- This year, 32 terrorists were convicted by the courts. Additionally, 80 cases of extortion were registered, with progress being made in 47 of them.

- In the cases of extortion, 197 individuals were named, and 89 extortionists were apprehended in various operations, while 5 were El_iminated.

- It is worth noting that Afghan nationals are involved in extortion and terrorism, and they use Afghanistan's SIM cards, which are challenging to trace.

There has to be synopsis of ops for assessment. Was it incorrect deployment of soldiers or ambush or trap or loss from sniper fire.

My gripe with the way ISPR report is exactly this. We never know what actually transpired (even at a high level as we cannot expect ISPR to release details for obvious reasons). Each time they say it was a firefight and our boys were casualties. To a layperson, that seems like repeated bad tactics which overexpose own troops. The reality probably is some are ambushed and some are sniped. Usually, in sniping incidents, we should not lose multiple troops (unless multiple snipers are coordinating which is rare). However, if posts are getting ambushed regularly, then they need to shore up defenses and give troops better personal protection.

Either way, our casualty rate is quite high any which way one looks at it.

They should install motion sensors throughout the border fence. Each sensor being spaced out from another by maximum detection range. Once the sensor is triggered, it can send GPS coordinates to surveillance drones for identifying & targeting. Depending on manpower of infiltrating group, adequate patrol groups can be delivered to the location.

@Signalian @blain2 there was a video two years ago in Balochistan of scumbags using snipers to deadly effect ambushing an open top Hino carrying troops, they detonated a command operated IED to disable the truck and picked off the soldiers who disembarked one by one. Pakistan needs to review how it transports troops in high-risk areas vs low-risk zones.

Furthermore my humble opinion, tactics on how we deploy our boys in such areas needs to improve. We need to invest heavily in developing covert human intelligence sources in the area and despite operating in our own country our understanding of the Human terrain is very poor. What is PA's plan to replace soft top's with uparmoured vehicles at least in high risk zones? If any?

Why not utilize UAV's for overwatch to fulfil the role of forward observation and situational awareness?
