Four 'ASWJ workers' gunned down in Karachi

Four men associated with the proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were gunned down in Karachi on Friday, officials said.

Three men were shot in the Shafiq Mor area of North Karachi, Central SSP Muqadas Haider said.

The senior officer added that all three men appeared to be 'religious scholars'.

Separately, two men were shot and wounded critically near Fatima Bai Hospital in Patel Para area of Jamshed Quarters police.

“They were transported to Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors pronounced Mohammed Amin, 30, as dead on arrival,” said Senior Medico-Legal officer Dr. Qarar Ahmed.

“Both men sustained bullet wounds on the head and the injured man in his 40s is in serious condition” Qarar added.

An ASWJ spokesman claimed all four victims were associated with the banned group.

He added that the men were returning after attending a rally at Nagan Chowrangi. He identified one of the deceased as Maulana Usman Haidery.

Sindh Chief minister Murad Ali Shah took serious notice of firing incidents in the city and made telephone contact with the Karachi police chief and the additional inspector general of the CTD and directed immediate action be taken.

I have no problem with this. ASWJ is an organization directly linked to LeJ. This news should come more often. The shia brothers who conducted the attack should be given jobs in the police. Sad to note that PTI rally was stopped in Islamabad and ASWJ rally allowed to go on. Proves that the government itself has the blood of our innocent shia brothers on their hands.

They weren't attacked by Shias - shame on you for trying to spread sectarianism.

They also don't have "direct links" to LeJ. Why would LeJ have "direct links" with them if they bombed an ASWJ event (Mawlid) in Karachi in which 63 people were killed.

Hazaras were dying daily in Quetta till recently. Even in Karachi their are regular incidences of violence against shias. It is only human to sympathize with them. Its not sectarianism to call zulm zulm. ASWJ won elections and linked itself to PMLN. In the past it has also contested with seats from PPPP. This is political support to a group that kills innocent shias and sunnis who sympathize with them. I think it is necessary to build bridges between shia and sunni. Desperation often results in these kinds of counter attacks by sipah e muhammed.

i always respected you never thought you of all guys will be the one supporting vigilantes and trial less killing.

The terrorism in every form needs to be condemned and be dealt with iron fist. Whatever the sect is, it is to be dealt as terrorism. Seems like the group is active to flame sectarian killings again in Karachi and may be rest of the parts of Pakistan. No one is supposed to take law in own hands.

Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat is Deobandi Organization. As far bombing incident the one is talking about was in the event of Sunni Tehreek , a Barelvi Sect Organization.There seems no clash b/w Barelvis and Shias, Its Deoband vs Shias, they declare Shias as 'Kafir' becoz of venom they spit for Sahaba RA

In an ideal situation the government should identify them and army/rangers/police should take action against them. But due to the lack of such action I can only be happy that such elements are being sent to hell. I am just a pessimist. I do not think government is willing or capable of taking action against militants.

Also SeM has rarely or possibly never targetted innocent civilians like the LeJ. Vigilantes are created when the current system fails utterly.
