Floods also opened up new opportunities: Shahbaz

Updated at: 2115 PST, Thursday, October 14, 2010
Floods also opened up new opportunities: Shahbaz LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Thursday said that floods unleashed large scale devastation across the province but along with misery and pain it also open up new opportunities.

During his meeting with British Depty High Commissioner Dr. Peter Tibber here, Shahbaz Sharif said that model villages are being constructed with the financial assistance of philanthropists.

The British Deputy High Commissioner said that his country will continue support for the rehabilitation of the flood-affectees.

People from cross sections of society also called on Shahbaz Sharif at Chief Minister House where cheques amounting to Rs8.4 million were presented to him in aid for flood-hit people.

All reconstruction work has to be done by NDMA and be planned at state wide level.
Sharif clearly see opportunity to get more rich and make political credit out of the aid business.
Todate, govt. have not announced any tax relaxation for flood victims or their reconstruction material.
All what they wish is donors put money at their hands and never come for audit.
There was too much talk from the govt. about transparency at the time of aid begging but every thing is forgotten today.

Floods also opened up new opportunities

The floods wiped out entire areas and now they can rebuild houses and erect the whole infrastructure with planning and keeping future needs in mind.

Most of the areas in Indian subcontinent are just made up, since they are living like that since centuries now so the were not planned according to new models... now they have an empty space so they will be able to build houses according to latest technology

There are other side advantages (mostly for agriculture) but i am stopping here

About $9 billion damaged happened because of these floods so that means Shahbaz Sharif will build all that advance infrastructure keeping the damage price in mind?

so that means flood happened was good thing, because it gives Shahbaz Sharif a chance to build advance infrastructure. is that you mean?

Floods have opened new opportunities for greedy corrupt politicians like the sharif brothers and zardari.

Shame on everyone who support these thieves.

I didn't say Floods were good

Floods did ruin the life of 20 million peoples in Pakistan. We are heavily effected by the floods and our economy has been hit hard by the floods. Of course there is a huge loss of human and finance but that was not my point.

Shahbaz is talking about the positive aspect of this flooding that is if properly managed we will be able to build model cities in these effected areas. They can have a proper sewerage system now, they can have a well developed and/or planned housing schemes, they can spread the wires underneath the ground before erecting infrastructure that will help combat the future issues that we generally face in South Asian countries due to centuries old infrastructures

well...he couldn't build these houses or buildings till now, than how could someone believe that he will build it now after the floods. :agree:

There's something positive even in the extremes of negatives, question is, are you willing to look for it?

Remember what the Lord has in Bhagvad Geeta:

Jo hua, accha hua
Jo ho raha hai, accha ho raha hai
Jo hoga, accha hoga

Whatever happened, was for good
Whatever is happening, is for good
Whatever will happen, will be for good.

We don't but he brought it up himself so we know that at least there are plans to do so. If someone wanted to do this before they would no be able to do so because the infrastructure of villages and farms was decades old of now centuries therefore it was they were not built so that they could adopt modern systems such as a proper sewage system, electricity and running water available to every house. I am basically repeating what is already implied in the original post just read it again its all in there.
