Jet engines anyone???

Bingo!! finally someone has guessed it right. PAF is already using Russian jet engines for JF-17 and now looking for more powerful engines for more advanced fighter jets.

India will buy Western platform and will serve as cow which will give milk to theWestern economies. On the other hand Pakistan will have their own jets with full control over technology and will be fully independent!

India missed the boat on MMRCAABCDEFE,.... They could have built their own jet from scratch with that kind of money.

And funny thing..we already have 25 billion $ deal with Russia in plane development. Lets see if Pakistan can even get that kind of money. Pakistan will not be able to raise that kind of money even if all of u eat grass..

Pakistan and Russian growing relations means more then getting military hardware. If we don't go for any equipment from Russia, this new alliance will be of significant effect with India getting close to US and Europe, and Russia showing time and time again that it is still an important global military-politics stage player.
Our armed forced might be interested in some Russian hardware and we might even get some but weighing the relations in these terms is not doing OK unless some real deal is confirmed.

For me, whether we get Russian Military hardware or not, Pakistan and Russia getting close is a good development for Pakistan and even Russia!

It was just a visit to a another country. Nothing more atm. These are just the initial steps towards better relations between Russia and Pakistan.
We may have finally woken to the fact that we can have good relations with as many global players as possible and not stick to just one.

We don't need to raise that kind of money.Because the jets we are building are not only cost effective but we also have good maintainence.Something on which India wastes millions per year even after which,jets are lost at an almost constant rate.

I think irrespective of whether we set up defence arrangements or not that step alone is a step in the right direction.
If we are talking about defence cooperation RD 93MA or AL31FN come to mind with facilities to at least locally overhaul them leading on to partial production of parts. The Russian Helos are good and ruggid and MI17 has worked wonders for the PA aviation. Perhaps PA might be looking at other attack helicopters in due course. Long range missiles is another possibility although PA might try to get into a chinese partnership with Russian blessing which would be a more comfortable situation for all parties. However the first step which has been allude dto is to establish a relation of trust which might be of mutual benefit. If JFT is a success Russia will share in that success. So it is a mutually beneficial situation. In the long term we need to look at becoming as independent as is possible and Russia may be an answer while the chinese will be our long term parners

good thoughts sir but i am not so sure if discussions or even the perceptions are that far advanced. we need to start with some basic agreements.

- more med lift helos Mi-17 (with armed options)
- attack helos

if we get agreement on these two, it would be a good start.
