What's new

First Embraer Lineage 1000 has arrived in Pakistan

We haven't received the third RAS-72 yet and here you are saying such discouraging things 😒
PIA has decided to finish its commercial ATRs service which means in about 24 months they will get rid of all ATRs and any ground services associated with them. This is bad news for PN whose primary consideration for buying ATRs was using PIA ability for repair and service ATRs periodically and at much cheaper rates. Flying a commercially built non militarised/ marinized ATR for access of 6 hours over the corrosive Arabian Sea environment tremendously increases the MTBF and MTTR of external engines and components. This could mean that very soon PN may as well consider replacing the expensive to maintain ATRs with smaller sized jets as well. Lets see how that comes about in the next five years or so.

We just inducted these, I really doubt we would of gone to all the effort to buy and modify then get rid of them after 5 years. We simply are not rich enough to do that.

What is replacing ATR in PIA?

Which variant was selected by PN
Embraer Lineage 1000
or
Embraer Lineage 1000E

PN May restrict ATRs induction to smaller numbers maybe 3-4 while it considers replacement. Having a large fleet of PN ATRs will simply become fiscally unbearable in absence of PIA not being able to maintain or overhaul them. At its current state of affairs, it’ll be a miracle that PIA be able to survive as an airline for the next 10 years let alone try to revive propeller based local short hop flights.

It’s a 2011 EMBRAER Lineage 1000

Defender doesn't possess any capabilities to track navy ships or subs. That's just a small utility aircraft used my the maritime service for patrolling the shores keeping an eye on smugglers and what not.

There are only two MPA. RAS ATR72 and P3C which will hopefully be replaced with the Embraers.
Pakistan has 3 layer MPA strategy. First one is with Britten-Norman Defender in Maritime Security Agency, second with ATR 72 and the third with PC3s. Embraer are for the P3C replacement.

Agree on PIA not being able to survive. As for ATRs, main benefit for PN is having overhaul and training facilities at Karachi airport, if these are maintained than all good, ATR spares are not a problem on the commercial market

PIA is only cancelling lease of ATR-72 which were acquired on lease in 2015, on the other hand PIA will keep operating ATR-42 on domestic routes.
PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik, while congratulating the PIA team on successful negotiations, said that it was not only a difficult decision at this crucial time, but an unavoidable one as well. “The airline will keep operating other ATR aircraft, which make the operations viable on short routes. Meanwhile, under the supervision of the government of Pakistan, PIA will soon acquire new aircraft in its fleet, which will improve the airline’s product and service considerably.”

But even if what you are saying is true then PN may negotiate with PIA to maintain repair and service facility for ATR aircraft as it is decided in PIA restructuring plan to maintain engineering capabilities and enhance it further for aviation sector of less develop countries from Africa and Asia and ATR aircraft are used by many countries so I don't think PIA would let capability go.

If am not wrong these facilities are suppose to be shifted towards north may at old Islamabad airport.

PIA HQ is being shifted North, am sure Karachi will remain a central hub. Neverthless as long as facilities remain in country and PN has access this will make all ATR ops cheaper and easier. Of course added bonus of Job opportunities for former PN air crew

What is more important then slight differences in range or speed or combat load is that this new aircraft will be created for Pakistan to Pakistani specification. Due to the list of agreements Indians signed with US, P-8 cannot "talk" via data link or provide targeting information to non US assets. This is a massive issue and to a large extent handicaps the P-8s and Indians Ships, Sub and cruise missiles are all non US.

Sea Sultan in theory will be able to "talk" to and provide targeting to all PN assets.

That is where the real magic will be. Imagine a Hangor sub being given targeting info from a Sea Sultan 500 miles away, then making ready a cruise missile launch, all the while being undetected....

Wrong info. There is a reason why it is called P8I. It has Indian communication system designed and installed to enable it to share information with Indian warships.

US were frustrated that Indian P8 were not able to interface with US allies like US or Japan. The newest or the last 6 P8 on order will come with both indian and US system. The pilots can turn On and off which comm system they want to use. It adds to the weight but that is better than installing new system on all warships.

Why shifting pia from Karachi ? Any specific reason ?
to dent the mafia of labour unions and to deal with political interference, other than this engineering capabilities which PIA currently possess would be used better with upcoming civil aviation project which PAC has plan to initiate
