Shame on PM and govt. officials for not briefing on the country on this matter ..

Also shame on Pakistani media for lack of coverage over this incident ..

I agree that we don't need another hostile neighbour, but to what extent should their gangsterish behaviour be accepted. If China or Myanmar told you , you can't build border checkposts in your own territory what would India's reaction be? And lo and behold, as soon as we start building the check post, firing out of nowhere begins. And these liars will say Pakistan started it! What interest do we have in problematizing the construction of this check post? Afghanistan unfortunately is behaving like a spoilt child who can't have the other kids toys, and to keep such kids in line you need to use the stick and the carrot.

I know the anguish, but the key is root cause, why is that afghans would say something like that to Pakistan, the nation it depends on for all it's commodities. First make them aware of the leverages you hold, make the strategic alignment profitable to them, If the political and military class falls in line, foot soldiers will follow suit.

China and Myanmar did not have the best of relations with India, but we looked at root cause, and started the corrective actions, we gave the chinese access to Indian markets, they needed to grow, India provided a market, but controlled it in such a way that there will always be room for them to grow and that comes at a price of being non-hostile. Still we have some instances, but nothing major. With Myanmar, we built relations ground up, we built trade relations, military - military relations, and brought in our friends to invest and accept their regime to be on a reform course. We had to work on the goodwill and it's working. We could have squabbled on the symptoms that manifest bad relations, but instead we took corrective actions not to solve the issues, but calm them down as well as we could with leverages with China. This is just an example, our solution with china cannot be applied to Pak-Afghan issues, but the essence of the approach can be.

I hope common sense prevails soon as this is a really shameful incident in the month of Ramadhan. All the keyboard warriors on both sides are having a field day on social media but its the poor people on both sides who will suffer the most. There should be dialogue and an immediate ceasfire and thorough investigation and stupid people who started this brought to justice.

The picture the Afghan media giving is that one of the Afghan border police went over to the Pakistani side to ask them to stop the work as they were not aware a gate was being built but the Pakistani side said they have orders from Islamabad to finish the work. Things got heated and the Afghan border police was either insulted or shot at whcih started the fight. Now this is the story from the Afghan media and might not be true at all.
The Pakistani side of the story is that the workers working on the gate were shot at without any provocation.

Very irresponsible behavior from Afghanistani forces, and now more shameful behavior from Afghanistani media, creating hype and hate.
Gate is inside Pakistan, any word twisting from media is not going to help.

Kabul Urges Islamabad To End Torkham Dispute Through Political Means

Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry (MoFA) on Tuesday said that the continuation of clashes in Torkham is not in Pakistan's interests and Islamabad should stop violating the existing agreement.

"The best way to address the issue is through diplomatic ways," said MoFA spokesman Shekib Mustaghni.

One of the key agreement's between Kabul and Islamabad is that no military activities will take place in zero line (no man's land) on the Durand Line. Kabul believes Islamabad violated this agreement.

A number of political analysts said that the Afghan government must lodge a complaint with the United Nations over these violations.

"Border problems existed in the past and every time Pakistan violates the agreement, the government should address the issue through diplomatic ways," said Mohammad Natiqi a political analyst.

Clashes broke out Saturday in the Torkham area when Pakistani border forces allegedly started building a new installation at the gate. Afghan border forces took action to stop this.

Afghan officials said that the Pakistani military wanted to construct another gate in zero line. Clashes between the two sides then broke out.

The usually bustling town was however on Tuesday a virtual ghost town with no civilians to be seen. The crossing has been closed for two days.

The Afghan government has meanwhile called on Pakistan to stop violating the existing border agreements.

"We ask Pakistan to implement the agreement and the agreement should not be violated," Mustaghni added.

Afghan Upper House on Tuesday also discussed the Afghan-Pakistan border clash.

"People should stand beside their security forces. All our criticism against Pakistan has not resulted in anything," said Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, speaker of the Upper House.

"This issue should be solved through diplomatic ways, war cannot solve the issue," said Jumadin a senator.

This comes after Pakistani border police recently closed the border gate to Afghans without visas.

A week ago, a number of drivers and shopkeepers in Torkham protested over the continued closure of the Torkham border.

The protestors said that Torkham is not recognized as the border between the two countries and Pakistan does not have the right to close the gate.

The protestors warned Pakistan that if they do not open the gate they will face a major response from Afghans.

Hundreds of Afghan travelers, many of whom are medical tourists, cross through Torkham daily.

--------

Incredible.
They decide to respond to the construction of gates with guns and mortars and are now talking about settling the matter through political means.

The border should remain shut till it has been properly secured and Maj Changezi sacrifice has been properly accounted for, kahani khatum paisa hazum.

I used to share your enthusiasm with regards to reconciliation with Afghanistan, but with time it becomes more and more clear that they have no intention of ever becoming Pakistan's friend due to their territorial "claims" on Pakistani soil. Heck even the Taliban who were supposedly pro-Pakistan did not accept the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Their hatred for Pakistan resulted in them courting the Soviets, and the result this had on their nation was catastrophic, yet still they persist on their silly demands.

With regards to opening our market to Afghanistan and thereby improving ties, forget the market, we opened our whole goddamn country to them! For decades Pakistan has hosted the largest refugee population in the world, composing of millions of Afghans (only recent has Turkey overtaken us after the Syria war began). 49% of their exports are to Pakistan (http://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/profile/country/afg/). We have invested in their education sector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkh_University), in their infrastructure (http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/201...on-infrastructure-development-in-afghanistan/). What more we can do, I honestly do not know! If they today recognize the border and decide to normalize ties with Pakistan, the benefit this will have on their country cannot even be explained, but its almost as if they like seeing their country being war torn and poverty stricken.

The custodian on the State...i.e President.

He can call the Joint session of the Parliament as well and the Parliament can legalise his action...After all it comes under Emergency Provisions.

We do know what kind of president does Pakistan really have. Nuff said
