After Farhan Akhtar, co-producer of upcoming film Raees, refused to cough up the Rs 5 crores demanded by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, the political party has threatened the makers.

According to Mid-Day, MNS cine wing president Ameya Khopkar said, "Release nazdik aane do phir dekh lenge (Let the film's release come closer, we will look into it). By the way, where were these people when the decision of donating Rs 5 crores was taken? Suddenly everyone is waking up."

He further questioned why the producers who readily pay Pakistani artistes have an issue donating money to the Indian Army.

Raees was one of the films that was targeted by MNS for casting a Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. The party had demanded all films casting Pakistani artistes to pay a sum of Rs 5 crore to the Army Welfare Fund as 'atonement' charge.

However Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, co-producers of the Shah Rukh Khan film, refused to pay the amount saying that as law abiding tax-payers the government should protect them.

News18 quotes Farhan Akhtar as saying, "No question of giving Rs 5 crore to the Army (for Raees) as they have refused to take it."

Earlier the director-turned-actor had said to The Indian Express that the peace deal between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MNS chief Raj Thackeray was unfortunate as it set a terrible precedent.

If you would have read the article or Farhan Akhtar's statement you would have gotten your answer regarding IA's stand over this issue.

ex-army officers have condemned it and called it as unnecessary , i don't think it needs an official statement from IA neither MNS nor bollywood are their priorities.

I dont like this extortionist behaviour of anybody.
But here i like the idea of these ppl being made to pay the price of sporting pakistani actors and hurting the sentiments of the people.

it is not about priorities.. MNS is damaging Army's reputation in the Public.

why only for Pakistani Artists?

He has said he wont pay under coercion so nothing wrong with it, no one can force you to donate under deceit and coercion. Maharashtra CM too has made it clear although he has been bit late to clarify his stand

He should never have been involved, even marginally.

Farhan Akhtar as saying, "No question of giving Rs 5 crore to the Army (for Raees) as they have refused to take it."

but in reality he himself brokered this deceitful deal but backed off after opposition frm there central leadership

If they do "gundagardi" why your gove don't take action against them ? Or they have strong support of ppl?

The government, across political parties, has a history of buckling under to the threats of the MNS and its parent party, from which it broke away over a leadership quarrel between two cousins, the Shiv Sena. The Congress caved in, the NCP caved in, and the BJP, with which it has an on-again-off-again alliance, probably finds it easiest of all three to give in.

They do not have the strong support of people for this particular action, but there is an undercurrent of resentment at Pakistani aggression and promotion of terrorist activity, especially as it affects lives of servicemen.

Everyone realises that it is a poll stunt. The Army has said clearly that it is not interested in donations wrung out of extortion, and has declined to accept it.
