The families of the Indian hostages held by Somali pirates sought Ansar Burney’s help.

Talking to Ansar Burney by phone, the families of Indian hostages pleaded him to help arrange the release of their love ones.

Burney told the media that release of Pakistanis, Egyptians and Indian hostages delayed because the Indian parliamentarian KD Singh did not pay the money that he pledged.


He said that if the ransom money did not pay by May 22, the pirates would not only increase it but could kill one of the hostages.


He said Ansar Burney Trust International would do everything for the sake of humanity. The trust will keep endeavouring for regional peace and will keep serving the humanity without any racial discrimination, the humanitarian activist.

Release of hostages by pirates delayed

There seems to be no relief for the families of four Pakistanis hostages being held by Somali pirates since last August along with 11 Egyptians, six Indians and a Sri Lankan, as constant delaying by an Indian parliamentarian to pay their share of ransom money has stalled the hostages’ release process.

The deadline for paying the money is May 22.

Human rights activist Ansar Burney, who has been actively pursuing the case, told The News that they have given one more day to Indian parliamentarian KD Singh to arrange 0.5 million dollars out of a total 2 million dollars that the pirates are demanding as ransom to release the hostages. As many as 22 people including 11 Egyptians, six Indians, four Pakistanis and a Sri Lankan are being held the pirates since last august.

“KD Singh had promised to pay the money on behalf of the Indian hostages. However, his delaying tactics has put us in a tight spot. If he refuses to raise the required money, then we will do it for them. We won’t let anyone die,” Burney said.

The rights activist further said that they would raise the money on behalf of the Indians. The Somali pirates will not let go of anyone until they receive the total ransom money.

Burney, along with the families of the Pakistani hostages, met the governor of Sindh on Wednesday and informed him about the status of the case. “The governor assured his support immensely, and he has spoken to influential people to raise the money in case Singh does not live up to his promise,” he said.

However, Burney said he would request the pirates to give them some more time to arrange for the money.

When it come down to a common enemy, differences should be put aside especially when Somalian Pirates have taken innocent people as hostages.
I'm praying this ransom is paid. There needs to be a coalition of anti piracy, especially in the Arabian Sea..

This is not the time to discuss such things, those poor people are not dying due to poverty. However, if the ransom money is not paid then hostages will be killed for sure, so decide yourself which thing should be given priority?
