Its the time to refuse the imported system of democracy. Its the time to setup 'Khilafat'

The most advanced and prosperous countries in the world manage to get by just fine without "Khilafat". People who want to be ruled by religious tyrants should spend some time in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Like most democracies around the world, Pakistani politics is captive to two major parties. The problem is that these parties (PML-N and PPP) are built around the cult of personality, the Sharifs and Bhuttos/Zardaris, respectively, and the main party agenda is to fight the decades old feud between these two families. Running the country itself is an afterthought, to be handled maybe in some spare time.

The second problem is that neither party has the guts to stand up to the religious fanatics in Jamaat-e-Islami and other religious parties, so nobody has seriously taken on the extremist mullahs and terrorist organizations. Even the army (read Musharraf) cannot move seriously against these guys. As long as the Jamaatis and their friends remain powerful, Pakistan will never be safe.

Why do you guys want to be ruled by military dictators ?

Because the faith ratio of people in Policiticians and Army is roughly about 30% Vs 70 %

:) in simple words we dont have faith in politicians as they are part of a feudal system.

Above all the kind of democracy prevails here in sub-continent is a flawed system

Although Pakistanis are supporting military I feel it will be biggest mistake committed.

If people are so fedup of the present political parties then , choose new political parties and elected good people.
I dont think choosing dictators would be great idea after what Mr. Zia has done to pakistan.

Easier said than done.

I don't know about India (BJP or Congress?), but in the US, UK, Australia and Pakistan, the two dominant parties have a lock on the executive role.

It's very hard for third parties to break in.

The democracy isnt flawed..its the people who lack in democratic values .

And Beside that u cant build a perfect system overnight democracy or otherwise ,...it takes many decades even hundereds of yrs of uninterrupted democracy for its institutions to reach a certain level of maturity. western democracies are the the prime examples of this.

I think only a democratic system that can juggle competing interests of different factions of pakistan , providing longterm security and greater stability in pakistan ,a country peaceful within and at peace with its neighbours.

There is a big differene beteween Checks and balanaces system in Western democracies and those in Sub-Continent.

besides US chooses one kind of democracy for itself and the kind of it has supported in Egypt and so on.

In simple words if for western kind of democracy, the same atmosphere or frame work is needed.

Not merely Voting specially in India and Pakistan where votes are bought or either infulenced by communal sentiments and divide.

Those stats do not justify military rule IMO. Keep in mind that the Army is extremely popular again because it has taken pains to project an image of staying out of politics and focusing on military matters.

Contrast that with its low point in the public opinion - towards the end of Musharraf's Military rule.

In addition, what is military rule?

It is rule at the barrel of a gun. How is that different from what the Taliban wish to impose?

Right now we are winning the battle in the hearts and minds of the public (With the media largely on board surprisingly) because of the argument that a system in which the people of Pakistan have the power to elect their government is the best. The people have a voice, and it is that voice and freedom they are fighting to protect.

Army rule means you lose the moral high ground, which means you hand the terrorists an extremely potent propaganda tool - they are fighting against 'dictatorship'.

It would be disastrous to have military rule at this point. There really is no substitute for allowing the painful maturing of the political process in Pakistan through continuity.

Had our political scene not been dominated by feudals, it might not have been such a protracted process - but it is what it is and we have to work with whatever we have.

Instead of arguing in favor of military rule or 'revolution', people need to work towards making the masses more politically aware and cognizant of their power at the polls, and to use it responsibly.
