SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Facebook Inc is no longer allowing pre-installation of its apps on Huawei phones, the latest blow for the Chinese tech giant as it struggles to keep its business afloat in the face of a U.S. ban on its purchase of American parts and software.

Customers who already have Huawei phones will still be able to use its apps and receive updates, Facebook told Reuters. But new Huawei phones will no longer be able to have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.

Smartphone vendors often enter business deals to pre-install popular apps such as Facebook. Apps including Twitter and Booking.com also come pre-installed on Huawei phones in many markets. Twitter Inc declined to comment and Booking Holdings did not respond to a request.

The move by Facebook dampens the sales outlook for Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, whose smartphone business became its biggest revenue generator last year, powered by strong growth in Europe and Asia.

Huawei declined to comment.

LOL. US used national power to suppress Huawei. But the British BBC still chose Huawei equipment. Who in the world will believe in Yankees?!

China must strike back. Trump is a punk but the guy is having the upper edge in this exchange because China hasn't retaliated yet.

Look, this is the ability of the West to manipulate public opinion.

China must do the same. In my opinion, China is a great country, people are familiar with my views on this forum, but I have said it countless of times, the Chinese are extremely poor in their PR campaign outside of China. They need to evaluate and come up with a better solution to improve on this weakness. Trump will win again in the 2020 election, depending on the Democratic candidate, so, therefore, China can't remain silent too long. You can't appease the American's brother they are a parasite.

Good for the world. People should know there are dozens of social media out there.

BTW, what if Chinese wechat ends support of iPhone. Since only wechat is used in china instead of whatsapp and blocking of this app in ios means Chinese will never ever buy any iphone. @beijingwalker

We can't. We're not traditionally good at debating.

Think about Mr. Snowden.

Monitoring equipment at the U.S. Embassy...

NSA monitored calls of 35 world leaders (including their ally, Ms. Merkel).

Unfortunately, these things have been covered up...

If an American says: hey friend, our great United States of America has stopped monitoring the world... would you believe it?

What is the sales volume of iPhone in China?

The first thing I did when I brought my Huawei phone was deleting Facebook and other Google bloatware.
Wish Google would have saved me time by not putting them on in the first place

I see it here also and in real life. You mainland folks don't got game in the art of Chanakya

Sorry , what is face book , can I eat it?

Send while using WeChat account

I know that WeChat is popular among Chinese but Facebook is still most popular social media platform. Pre install is hardly necessary considering even Iphone doesn't allow preinstall of Facebook and other third party apps. One shouldn't force a platform on its users.

I know the Chinese style isn't based upon aggression but that doesn't stop you from taking steps to improve China's PR campaign across the world. You can't apply the rules which work in China with the rest of the world. Remember the famous quote "When in Rome do as the Romans do." The same concept applies to the west. The Chinese (officials, students, academics) must confront those who have attacked China on its human rights violations. For example, Falun Gong has been successful in the west because no one has challenged them on their credibility. This damages China's soft image. If the American's can pump in $200 million into Pakistan's media houses to speak their narrative then China must counter it. The Snowden case may have been covered up but it has damaged America's soft power across the world. If you travel to the west and speak to the average person then you'll know how much people hate what America did and how often they ask their Govt what protections are in place to stop privacy intrusions. America is in decline you don't need a fortune cookie to tell you that but China shouldn't let the American's call the shots. The American's are making an example of Huawei so China must do the same with an American company.

Its not blocked but merely won't be available in pre installed on the phone. Users can easily download it of their own choice.
I don't give much importance to this news. People can choose to install them, but given google has already ended support for them, pulled play store. If more companies are pressured to do the same, it's bad news for Huawei.

Now whatsapp is owned by Facebook, you can imagine the trouble it would create if they end support for Huawei.
This is sad, and shows how depended those companies are on US products.
