F-18, Predators & More | India-U.S. Set to Sign 'Historic' Defence Deals During PM Modi’s U.S. Visit

How will they play out in war time in naval domain?
The basic purpose of UAVs is to have Expendable/relatively cheap yet valueable surveillance/strike assets
But US UAVs are no way cheap ones to full fill this basic purpose.
I read somewhere its literally 100M USD per piece.
Thats literally defeats the basic purpose of having UAVs.

Or I am missing something????
No you are right, American UAV's or for that matter their other weapon platforms, are said to be very costly to acquire.

However from what I have read, the advantage lies in operating costs of same. Western weapon platforms in general, are said to be cheaper to operate it seems compared to Russian platforms.
Am sure your generals will know this, as Pakistan has been operating F-16's for so long.

Operating costs become the key in war time no doubt, as acquisition cost is a one time thing. Further West always keeps their weapons modular, in that they get regular upgrade packages. So this also adds to their effectiveness.

In comparison Russian (am not going to mention Chinese, as these platforms are relatively new in world stage, so more data needs to be available for anyone to make statements on same) platforms, are cheaper to acquire but costlier to operate. In addition Russian platforms if am not wrong, aren't available for deployment at the rates western platforms are. As in they need high maintenance hours, to keep them running. Experts here can confirm or negate what I said though.

Close or not - it doesn't match thats it !
That's what I was replying to another thickhead when he claimed that India hasn't had a taste of Hi-tech lol the irony that they have the largest Largest It exports

I dont think we will go for F18, it was available to us even 10 years ago but it didnt qualify and lost to Rafale..what has changed in F18 that we will buy it now..doesnt make sense.....but yes, 10 yrs ago it was my favorite in MRCA bidding

Dude there is no exact match. Even if you compare Rafale with EF at something Rafale will be strong and at some point EF will be strong. Sea Sultan will have same features similar systems and will be of same generation rest depends on your crew training, motivation and other factors

India wants the hot engine technology - whether the Americans will give that is a different issue and most likely they won’t… no matter how many articles are written suggesting/wanting it to be true.

America is very conservative is sharing technology. They can offer everything to buy but without any tech transfer. Due to this reason, Indian was hesitant to associate with US defense equipment in the past.

Good to know that Indians are not Chinese and Chinese have FREE MINDSET.

When India says jump then Biden lies down (he is old, don't take it in a wrong way)

Indian lacks the skill of absorbing foreign ToT hence India is building AMCA under Make In India program

Please ignore him...Can you imagine, he is the same guy who thinks IK has ruined Pakistan...So you can understand his mindset...

Pakistan was used
India will be used.
Because Paksiatn allowed it to be used.

Till now India has shown clearly, how not to be used.

Paksiatn doesn’t seem to have learnt it’s lessons yet. It has always put all her eggs in one basket. Earlier it was US and now it seems to be China. At that time most of the Paksiatnis said that it was right to be in US camp and now most are saying that it is right to be in the Chinese camp.

GE Aerospace inks pact with HAL for joint production of fighter jet engines in India
Washington, In a landmark announcement, GE Aerospace on Thursday said it has inked a pact with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to jointly produce fighter jet engines for Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Mk-II -- Tejas. The announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first state visit to the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden.

"The agreement includes the potential joint production of GE Aerospace's F414 engines in India, and GE Aerospace continues to work with the US government to receive the necessary export authorisation for this," the US firm said in a statement here.
It described the Memorandum of Understanding with HAL as a "key element" in strengthening defence cooperation between India and the US.
"This is a historic agreement made possible by our longstanding partnership with India and HAL," said H Lawrence Culp Jr, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE and CEO of GE Aerospace.

Biden and Modi to announce the deal on armed drones: White House
1687445228854.png

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden will on Thursday announce a mega deal on the purchase of General Atomics MQ-9 "Reaper" armed drones by India, the White House has said, a move which would further bolster India's national security and surveillance capabilities not only in the Indian Ocean but also along the frontier with China. The General Atomics MQ-9 "Reaper" can carry 500 per cent more payload and has nine times the horsepower in comparison to the earlier MQ-1 Predator. Moreover, MQ-9 UAV provides long-endurance, persistent surveillance, and strike capability for the warfighter.

The General Atomics MQ-9 "Reaper" has an endurance of over 27 hours, speeds of 240 KTAS, can operate up to 50,000 feet, and has a 3,850 pound (1,746 kilogrammes) payload capacity that includes 3,000 pounds (1,361 kilogrammes) of external stores, according to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI).

"We are delighted about that because I think that's going to substantially grow India's ISR capability which I think is incredibly important and useful to them, both on their posts, above the sea and on their borders," said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official said the joint statement will have some specific initiatives on the US side to streamline and support some of the innovations bureaucratically that have existed and have inhibited some of the deals in the past.

"I think what you've seen over the last several months has been a dedicated effort to ensure that we will be able to move ahead with the GE engines and I think the Indians, to be honest, have been surprised and thrilled by the steps that we've been able to take to remove bureaucratic roadblocks from achieving this goal," said the official.

"We fully recognise that it's going to be necessary to follow through. You will see it on display... is a determination to ensure that our deeds will subsequently live up to words," said the official.

Dumbarse you have not grown a bit in last 10 years, have you ? what topic!
I just countered a loser like you, who is brainless patwaris that claimed that India doesn't operate Hi-tech equipment!
That's the end of it - but obviously, you have had to jump in like a loser you are and then bring in Pakistan that is bankrupt thanks to your Pig generals for no reason

India probably first nation to get MQ9B Reaper drones from US
1687537890495.png

Defence deals signed between India and US during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit not only enhance India's defence capabilities, but also show growing proximity between the two countries, experts said on Friday.

India and US inked a $3 billion deal for 31 high altitude long endurance UAVs, of which the Navy will get 15 SeaGuardian drones. while the Army and the Indian Air Force will get eight each of the land version -- SkyGuardian

Another major announcement that came was an MoU signed between GE and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to jointly produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.

Former deputy national security advisor Pankaj Saran called it a "new era" in India-US relationships.

"This marks a new era in relationships. The key takeaway is the focus on two sectors -- defence and technology. The third element is the boldness of ambition shown by both sides," Saran told PTI.

"In the past also we have had summits, but in this particular summit there is a very conscious decision for both sides to significantly increase their ties in strategic areas," he said.

Former Vice Chief of Indian Air Force Air Marshal Ravi Kant Sharma (retired) said the MoU signed between GE and HAL is a great step forward for India and its jet engine programme.

"It will provide a boost in making India move towards self reliance in jet engine technology, though there will be a long road ahead before we produce an engine. The F414 is a contemporary, state of the art engine... While we do not know the fine prints, this MoU will definitely help in moving towards indigenous jet engines," Sharma said.

Talking about the deal for the unmanned aerial vehicles, he said, "These UAVs can sustain for long duration, fly at high altitude, and have encrypted communication. In any warfare, you need intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance... It will provide good ISR capabilities."

The Indian Navy has already been operating two Reaper drones which were hired on lease from an American firm.

Former Navy spokesperson Captain DK Sharma (retired) said the drones provide a huge advantage, especially as India has been watching its maritime boundaries with the ramping up of Chinese activities in the Indian Ocean area.

"These drones are an asset which has not been shared anywhere in the world, India is probably the first country to get the MQ9B, they had earlier given us two MQ9 Reapers on 'company owned, company operated' model," the retired navy spokesperson told PTI.

"The two UAVs have already flown around 12,000 hours and they have changed the way surveillance is done, data is collected and a maritime domain awareness picture is created. It was very well appreciated," he said.

"Our area of responsibility -- from Africa in the west to Sunda Strait in the east, and in the south, is huge. Last few years we have also seen a lot of Chinese presence in the area on one pretext or the other. We wanted some advanced surveillance assets which are not very costly to operate. One hour of a sortie of a Reaper costs in thousands (of Rupees), when the same job is done by the P8-I, the cost comes to a few lakhs," he said.

"It has hard points, can be weaponised, can go on a pure ISR mission, or anti-submarine warfare mission, and can be armed with hellfire missiles or other weapons. It can do the job as the mission requires," he added.

The Predators, also called the MQ-9 Reaper, can fly up to 36 hours at a stretch and can be used for focused monitoring of any specific point or area of interest.

Other major outcomes of PM Modi's state visit to the US includes computer storage chip maker Micron's announcement to set up a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat, and the decision by the two countries to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station in 2024.

India has also decided to join the Artemis Accords, which brings like-minded countries together on civil space exploration, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Indian Space Research Organisation have agreed to a joint mission to the International Space Station in 2024.
