Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

Well, but for what does the Qatar Emiri Air Force need JF-17s? IMO only a twin-seater variant would make sense ...
this sems the real possibility ..... but again could be distant possibility
It says that Qatar is interested in a BlockIII dual seater
there is no Block-III dual seat is available only Block-II dual seaters are operational ....

Qatar envoy says , a briefing was given to the king of Qatar about JF17 and Mashaq trainer

From twitter , apparently a news on PTV
JF-17 is our sophisticated and modern machine , offering it to ghana , Ethiopia , mayanmar like third world countries was our big mistake, there was huge arab countries market available for us , and a 8 years kid knows arabs hate cheap products, to get their attraction we should set its price equivalent to F-16 BLK 50

So your logic is if we priced it like a F-35, then F-35 customers would choose JF-17 instead?

Nope F-35 is different machine, but arabs never have 200+KMs BVRs on their most expensive jets while we have on our JF-17s , similarly they have AESA HUD Avionics at the cost of $100 millon /jet , now tell us the reason why should not they go for JF-17 with lot of new SOWs ASHMs which they will never get from US

The F-15Qs/SA and Rafales do present fighters with greater performance then JF-17, both in terms of range, EW suite, radars etc. Granted you are right, US is always restrictive with weapons but remember many of these purchases are not made on outright merit of each aircraft. There are strong political factors behind Arab purhases of US weapons as we all know

A lot of the Qatari purchases also have a political twist to them. After all, they operate both the Rafale and Typhoon, then have the QA and now might be looking into the F-35. All of which is still centered around Al-udied and one other MoB.
The JF-17 if inducted is likely to be used for step up into the other aircraft. But they do also have a robust LIFT on the Hawk so that geopolitical relationship angle comes back in.

How about this being a political sale? Just to station Rafales and JF17s at same place? And let PAF pilots devise strategies against Rafale?

What does jf offers that Arabs don't have already. Most of what they buy is more based on politics and economic favors and Pakistan can't offer any of these. Jf17 is a potent aircraft intended to be a stop gap with a potential to grow but it's not in league of big boy toys that Arabs have.

I think you missed one very important factor of JF-17. That is no political string with western. Like western can sue UAE king for divorce and ask him to pay billions for his ex wife or charge him with human right crime which irked him. Having JF-17 in their fleet act as a political leverage against Western or Russia when comes to clash of interest in middle east affair. This will make western sanction less effective against the Arabs fleet.

The wing long II is one big reason why US restrict of high end UCAV didn't have much effect in the Arabs nation against Israel advantage. Now US make a big U turn and allow reaper UCAV to be sold to Arabs nation.

How's jf 17 leverage against Russia, when it uses Russian engine. Don't think if this situation comes they would go the route you propose.

Foreign sales of jf17 was intended only to help on project costs and create a positive image and as far as I know no unit of jf was sold to create political leverage for Pakistan. Small countries are ideal as their demands are not sky high in terms of bells and rings also their demand numbers would be easier to meet.

Qatar and Bahrain are not going for JF-17B. Qatar in particular as their requirements don't have any need for it due to their investment for the Hawk program. This was told to me by one of their evaluation teams.

Sometimes I think there is too much fanboy nonsense here. A foreign air force member touching a JF-17 brochure or asking about its cost doesn't mean they are proceeding to buy it.
Qatar does not need to buy the aircraft for itself but they can invest in the JF-17 Thunder program.
China doesn't allow it. This was discussed years ago.

JF-17 can use Chinese engine on request, just like J-10C using Chinese WS-10B. The J-35 prototype are flying the WS-13 engine.
