Its really an interesting development. India always opposed third party mediation in Kashmir hence it always said shimla agreement will b the only base on which future solution of Kashmir will b determined between Pakistan & India only so " Have Modi & India softened their stance over Kashmir? Is anything going on behind the curtain? "

Your opinions are highly appreciated.

What is so surprising? It is well known in India that Modi is an agent of the West.

Is anything going on behind the curtain?
Sri Sri Ravisankar facilitated the meeting. He's running a peace mission of his own. Also, the Norwegian ex PM is a president of Oslo Center of peace.

Nothing behind the curtain. Just non-governmental efforts. Besides it looks like Hurriyat is running out of funds to carry on with their actions. So, they're looking for the next one with deep pockets.

Both Sri Sri Ravishankar and Baba Ramdev are BJP's people.

Ravishankar is leading the track two talks on behalf of Modi.

It is well known demand of BJP/Modi to divide J&K into three pieces.

Jammu to stay in India. China will get Ladakh while Kashmir valley will go to Pakistan.

Kjell Magne Bondevik, the former Norwegian prime minister, who negotiated peace between the LTTE rebels and the Sri Lankan government, paid a surprise visit to top separatist leaders in Srinagar on 23 November, reports The Indian Express.

The visit comes days after India and Pakistan decided to develop the Kartarpur corridor.

Bondevik, who is currently heading the Oslo Centre for Peace and Human Rights, was Norway’s prime minister until 2005. The meeting was facilitated at Geelani’s Hyderpora residence by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living in which Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took part.

Reports suggest that this is the first-of-its-kind meeting with foreign leaders. “The visit was possible only after the consent of New Delhi. Sri Sri Ravishankar’s representative accompanied the former Norwegian PM,’’ Mirwaiz was quoted saying.

The primary purpose of his visit, according to Mirwaiz, is to asses the ground situation in Kashmir. The tour, he said, would lead to a “meaningful beginning” between India and Pakistan, at a time when both are considering the opening of the Kartartpur corridor.

The separatists have welcomed the visit of the former Norwegian PM. They have, however, reportedly raised concerns regarding the “killings” in the valley.

A senior police officer, however, told The Sunday Express that they had prior communication about the visit and had clear directions to permit it.

Bondevik also chaired a meeting with the Bar Association and the Kashmir Chamber (of Commerce and Industry) at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre.

Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India and Wang Yi, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China – met in Chengdu on 24 November for the 21st round of Special Representatives’ talks.

The Special Representatives also exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest and agreed to maintain close consultations on such issues. This agenda would include international & cross-border terror besides Afghan and Iranian situations.

The talks were constructive and forward looking, and focussed on taking forward the India-China Closer Developmental Partnership in pursuance of the guidance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping at their Informal Summit at Wuhan in April 2018.

The Special Representatives undertook a comprehensive review of earlier rounds of talks under the SR mechanism. Recalling the strategic guidance and support to their work provided by the leaders at the Wuhan Summit, the Special Representatives resolved to intensify their efforts to achieve a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the India-China boundary question at an early date.

They underlined the importance of approaching the boundary question from the strategic perspective of India-China relations and agreed that an early settlement of the boundary question serves the fundamental interests of both countries.

The Special Representatives agreed that pending the final resolution of the boundary question, it is important to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas and to ensure that the boundary question does not affect the overall development of the bilateral relationship. In this context, they noted the mature handling of issues relating to the India-China border areas since the Wuhan Summit.

Acknowledging the importance of predictability in border management, and in that context, underscoring the importance of maintaining strategic communication at all levels, the Special Representatives held discussions on various confidence building measures to promote exchanges and communication between their border personnel. They directed the bilateral Working Mechanism on Consultation & Coordination for Border Affairs to work out further details in this regard.

The Special Representatives reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations following the Wuhan Summit in April 2018 and subsequent meetings between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi in Qingdao in June 2018 and in Johannesburg in July 2018.

The two Special Representatives underlined the importance of sustained and effective implementation of the directions given by their leaders with a view to further strengthening the Closer Developmental Partnership between India and China to mutual benefit and with due respect for each other’s sensitivities, concerns and aspirations. They shared the view that stable and balanced development of India-China relations is a positive factor for peace and prosperity in the region and the whole world.
