All states are artificial depending how you look at it.

Quite so. Less than a thousand years ago England was an artificial hotch-potch of immigrants - Saxons, Celts, Angles, Danes, Jutes - artificially lumped together by a Frankish dynasty. Till the late 15th / early 16th century English language was not even used in court or by the aristocracy. The first English bible was not printed till the 17th century despite printing being around for over a hundred years. And till the 18th century Britain was two political entities (England and Scotland - not to mention Wales).

Similarly, till the mid 19th century Germany was a collection of 27 distinct political entities - much like the princely states of British India.

By these standards I would say that Syria, Iran, Turkey, India, Pakistan and China are less artificial - inasmuch the vast bulk of their inhabitants have long ties to their nations.

Yes, Syria(just like many artificial Arab states in the region ) was an illusionary country we (France and Britain) created anyway and placed the current Assad dynasty in Power. It was never meant to be , we drew imaginary lines and united/brought together people who have nothing in common under a "state/country" depending on which colonial power ruled these territories. Seems nature is simply correcting the mistakes we did. The same thing happened in South Asia as well , where we brought different ethnic groups who have nothing in common under British India , no surprise after we left all these groups (Pakistan, Bengladesh seceeded from this imaginary created country we left behind, and many other separatists groups are still vying/fighting for independence or at least autonomy to this day). In this regard I agree, our past actions are to blame to some extent.

Hopefully, Syria an be divided accordingly at least for long lasting peace and stability in the country. If there are majority of a group/people who don't want to be part of a country, then they have the right to be free to do so or at least have a large enough autonomy to make their own decisions/self ruled.

There is hardly anything more pathetic than a bunch of utopic Persian nationalists. Hardly any rational person gives any serious importance to ancient historical events. These are just pretty stories to be told, and should remain as a "hobby" at best. That explains why "history" isn't really a good major at any college. It is just too much of a focus on what has happened, as opposed to what will happen. I don't know anything about the history of S. Korea, Singapore, or Japan, but I do know what their grades are. They got an "A" in excellent economic management, rule of law, technology, and well-balanced politics. No wonder why Iran is in a bad shape today as it has been ripped in half between religious fanatics, and irrational Persian nationalists. Most nations had political or imperial peaks, the Arabs did have their own peak with many empires which had more lasting effect. The Greeks, the English, the Turks. Look at what the Spanish and Portuguese empires accomplished in modern history and the tremendous wealth and spoils they have gotten after conquering the new world. Should I also be speaking about the Romans? I am yet waiting to see an Italian guy who brag as much as a bunch of Persian American nationalists. They hardly know that this type of nationalism was a state enforced ultra-utopic thinking, which has been influenced by the 19th century EU racial supremacy theories. It was the Pahlavis that spread this irrational ideology to bring the people together under non-relgious umbrella. That contributed to the rise of Khomeni as a reaction.
