Chinese press defines Erdogan's visit as milestone in Turkey-China relations

09 April 2012 13:03
Chinese press defined Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to China as a "milestone" in the relations of the two countries.

SHANGHAI

Commenting on three-day visit of Erdogan to China, the Chinese press wrote that it was very important to develop relations with Turkey which was a model country for the Middle East with its rising economy and political stability.
The flirting period ended between the two countries, which were determined to be constructive and active in solution of problems, and both countries were aware of their responsibilities, wrote the press.
Chinese press defines Erdogan's visit under four main topics as; economy, politics, culture and international cooperation agreements.
The press stated that the biggest problem of Turkey, which is the 16th biggest economy of the world, is trade deficit.
As a sign of having a more transparent and realistic perspective in Uighur problem -–which has a political importance-- Turkish premier began his trip from Urumchi, said the Chinese press.
The press recalled that this year would be celebrated as Chinese Year in Turkey, and China would celebrate 2013 as Turkish Year.

Chinese companies could gain significant advantage over their rivals in winning the tender for the construction of Turkey’s second planned nuclear power plant, following an anticipated rapprochement between China and Turkey, during Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the country this week.

The latest and maybe the strongest signal for a possible Turkish-Chinese nuclear partnership came from Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız on Sunday. Accompanying Erdoğan in China, Yıldız told reporters Sunday in Urumchi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, that “they would decide whether a Chinese company could construct Turkey’s second nuclear power plant during this current trip.” Turkey and China are expected to sign several agreements during Erdoğan’s visit, including those on nuclear energy. During Turkey’s first prime ministerial visit to China in 27 years, Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday. Turkey plans to build two power plants, one in Akkuyu on the Mediterranean coast and another in Sinop on the Black Sea coast. It agreed with a consortium led by state-controlled Russian builder Atomstroyexport to build Akkuyu. Yıldız’s remarks follow earlier contacts with two other Asian nuclear developers in Japan and South Korea that failed. In 2010, representatives from South Korea and Turkey held intense negotiations on the $20 billion project to build four nuclear reactors on Turkey’s Black Sea coast. But the negotiations were suspended after the sides failed to work out key differences. Turkey had talks with representatives from Japan to reach an agreement on building a second nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast, but the talks were suspended after a nuclear power accident in Japan in the wake of an earthquake-triggered tsunami in March of last year. Japan and South Korea; however, have not lost interest in Turkish nuclear projects and are known to have bid (unofficially) for a second plant in the country. Noting that a tender for the construction of a second nuclear power plant is “most likely to happen in two months,” Yıldız did not rule out the possibility that developers from Japan, South Korea, China [and even Russia] could win the tender.

A possible nuke deal was discussed during a visit to Turkey by China’s leader-in-waiting Xi Jinping in February. China has 14 nuclear power reactors currently in operation and more than 25 others under construction as it vies to become a self-sufficient reactor designer and constructor. Environmental concerns aside, some parties oppose Chinese involvement because of the alleged increasing restrictions on the China’s Uyghur minority. China’s Xinjiang, predominantly populated by ethnic Turkic Muslim Uyghurs, has seen sporadic clashes between Chinese nationals and Uyghurs in the near past.

BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao held talks on Monday with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Beijing, agreeing to facilitate trade and nuclear power cooperation.

"China attaches great importance to Turkey's role as a major emerging power," Wen told Erdogan, who is on the first official trip to China by a Turkish prime minister in 27 years.

"Against the backdrop of continuous instability in West Asia and North Africa as well as the sluggish growth of global economy, the two nations should step up strategic communication and coordination to maintain regional peace and stability, deepen cooperation and realize common development," said the Chinese premier.

In their nearly two-hour-long talks, Erdogan told Wen his government firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and will never allow any anti-China secessionist activity by anyone in his country.

The Turkish prime minister started his four-day visit to China on Sunday. Before arriving in Beijing Monday afternoon, Erdogan visited Urumqi, capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region -- the first Turkish prime minister to visit the region.

Erdogan said he had witnessed and was impressed by the great changes of Xinjiang, adding his government hopes to further enhance exchanges and cooperation with the region.

Wen appreciated Erdogan's support for China's unity and Xinjiang's stable development, adding the Chinese government backs friendly exchanges and cooperation between Xinjiang and Turkey.

The two premiers exchanged views on the issues of Syria and Iran.

To facilitate bilateral cooperation, Wen proposed to make medium and long-term plans for two-way trade, push forward bilateral infrastructure projects regarding railway and bridge, and expand cooperation in high-tech areas such as nuclear power, aerospace and electronics.

Wen said China and Turkey should sign and implement the newly revised bilateral agreement on promotion and protection of investment as soon as possible, to offer legal guarantee and favorable conditions for cooperation among enterprises.

They agreed to take the opportunity of holding Culture Year for each other to enhance people-to-people exchanges.

Currently the Chinese Culture Year is being held in Turkey and the Turkish Culture Year will be held in China next year.

Erdogan told Wen that Turkey is ready to cement high-level exchanges and strategic coordination with China, to deepen win-win cooperation, and better safeguard their common interests.

After their talks, the two premiers witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation agreements regarding the peaceful utilization of nuclear power, nuclear energy cooperation, trade, investment and the establishment of cultural centers in both sides.

During Erdogan's stay in Beijing, President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo and Vice President Xi Jinping are also scheduled to meet with him.

Wen said he believed that Erdogan's China visit will further enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two nations and inject new momentum into bilateral ties.

After his Beijing tour, Erdogan is scheduled to fly to China's financial hub Shanghai and deliver a speech at Shanghai International Studies University. He will conclude his four-day trip on Wednesday.

The problem is that the Chinese government is clearly biased with non-Muslims agains Ughors. I watched horroble videos filmimg how those hun torture harmless Ughors. They are not just Turkish but Muslims as well. We do care about them. I don't say they should get autonomy, but Chinese government has to treat them as equally as the rest of Chinese.

I remember a while back how a guy emailed me horrifying videos of what some Kurds had to suffer during the operations by Turkey. Similarly I know for a fact how we - in Pakistan - butcher the Baloch Tribesmen, how we (to use the line of an analyst) through them off helicopters, carve out 'Pakistan Zindabad - Long Live Pakistan' on their bodies and all sorts of gruesome sh*t that we do....and yet the Irfan Baloch or the Pakistan Nationalist, our resident Baloch, on PDF would tell you a different story ! You have to realize that its possible that there are grievances but its also sure as hell possible that they may be deliberately being used to malign China ! Just as I don't believe that the Turkish Army is walking the streets of some Kurdish Towns with a machete and I don't believe that the Pakistan Army is engaged in gross human rights abuses, just as I know that there is something called 'Information War', that 'Propaganda Videos' are a very real thing - I think the same benefit of the doubt should be extended to China !

Chinese organized industry region planned in Turkey

Caglayan extended an invitation to Chinese firms to come and invest in Turkey.

Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan on Tuesday informed Chinese investors about the business opportunities in Turkey.

Speaking at the Turkish-Chinese Economic and Commercial Cooperation Forum in Beijing, Caglayan invited Chinese investors to discover economic opportunities in Turkey.

Turkey and China are two strong countries of the world. In 2011, Turkey and China were the two top countries with biggest growth rates, Caglayan stressed.

Turkey and China are countries situated in the most western and eastern parts of the Asian continent. Our countries have the necessary infrastructure to develop cooperation, Caglayan noted.

The trade volume between Turkey and China is 24 billion USD. Our trade must be further balanced, Caglayan stated.

We aim a trade volume of 50 billion USD with China by the year 2015 and a trade volume of 100 billion USD by 2020, Caglayan indicated.

There are 56 countries that could be reached from Turkey with only a flight of four hours, Caglayan said.

Touching on the new incentive system in Turkey, Caglayan said that the companies of the two countries could cooperate in third countries.

Caglayan extended an invitation to Chinese firms to come and invest in Turkey.

There are steps for the establishment of a Chinese organized industry region in Turkey, Caglayan also said.

Also speaking at the forum, Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan said that the participation of Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Turkish-Chinese Business Forum
was an indication of the importance the two countries attached to economic relations.

Diplomatic relations between Turkey and China were established 41 years ago. Relations between our countries continue to develop through high level visits, Qishan stressed.

Turkey and China work together in certain platforms, including G-20. The two countries are the rising economies of the globe, Qishan noted.

Turkey and China can boost relations in transportation, energy and telecommunications. We can develop cooperation in the nuclear energy and space industries, Qishan added.

your NK war knowledge failed miserably, first NK invaded SK trying to unite it, then SK called their U.S daddy to assist and U.S did and pushed NK force way back, and then NK asked China and Soviet to help fight the war``do you even understand this simple line of events?

ask mongolians and hungarians first, they have that claims too``even the Koreans some of them believe Huns were theirs````you little fanboy``lol

We should be grateful that China is where it is and not Turkey. Otherwise, as I see it, by now Vietnam and entire Korean peninsula would have been annexed to Turkey. Just like they did with Cyprus (and will do with Iraq in sometime).

Okay, as I see it, Erdogan's main topic for discussion at this time was the Syria issue. He is acting as a mediator between NATO's interventionist stance in Syria and Russia-china alliance's non-interventionist stance. This is besides other issues such as economic cooperation.

Stick to the topic

Thank you for deleting the racist rants. :pdf:

Indeed. It is much better to come to better terms of friendship for the future.

I think some class tours of students etc. should be encouraged from turkey to Xinjiang province of China. So that the Turkish people's misconceptions are cleared about China. Sure there may be one or two isolated unfair incidents against citizens who try to instigate violence, but it is surely nowhere near to the "1 million, 2 million, 9 million" figure claimed by some.

A little-known fact that has gone largely unnoticed, since the early Nineties, has been the vital role played by Pakistan in the substantial expansion of Beijing-Ankara military-industrial collaboration over the last 17 years. Since 1985, Turkey has sent 18 military delegations comprising some 200 members while 14 Chinese military missions with about 330 representatives have visited Turkey at the same time. Sino-Turkish military-industrial cooperation began in the first half of the Nineties after Ankara’s negotiations with Washington for the joint production and technology transfer of the M-270 multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) failed.

The US had then criticised Turkey for using US-supplied weapons for human rights abuses (against the Kurds), subsequently restricting weapons sales and military technology transfers to Turkey, and cutting off grants and loans earlier offered to Turkey for US-origin weapons. It was Pakistan which then informed Turkey that China was ready to fill the void, provided Turkey was willing to cooperate with China in the so-called fight against ‘Eastern Turkestan (Xinjiang)-sponsored terrorism’, namely to restrict, monitor and prevent the activities of Uyghur national organisations and leaders, most of whom were and are still based in Turkey.

Consequently, since 1997 the Third Bureau (military attachés) of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) General Staff Second Department (dealing with military intelligence) has been operating in Turkey as one of its most important, and presumably one of the most active, stations. Also in 1997, Turkey, for the first time signed a contract with China for the procurement of 24 WS-1 302mm unguided rockets as well as 144 rockets for licenced-assembly in Turkey, to be supplied between 1998 and 2000. Turkey next began licence-producing the TR-300 rockets (or T-302, upgraded from the four-barrel WS-1B MLRS) under the
Turkish designation Kasırga (tornado). In late 1998, based on a similar contract signed with the state-owned China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corp (CPMIEC),Ankara ordered some 15 of China’s most advanced short-range surface-to-surface battlefield support missiles (SSBSM) — the 150km-range B-611 — and under Project J-600T, began license-producing an additional 200 more under a USD 300 million deal. The first such missiles — known as Yıldırım (thunderbolt), were deployed as early as 2001.

The solid-fuelled Yildirim-2 variant, featuring a 300km-range, was subsequently developed jointly by the defence industries research and development institute of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK-SAGE), Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corp (MKEK), and the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp (CASIC), while it was series-produced by Roket Sanayii ve Ticaret (Roketsan).

i have nothing against China or the Chinese people, i never insulted you nor was my intention to create tension between our members, i honestly believe that Turkey would be China's best, most trustable, relaible partner in the region.. definitively we have many similarities as people too. That's my views about China but saying this doesnt mean we'll sacrifice the Uygur people and ignore them just for the interests..

.
Yes of course our people agree that our leaders have been bribed and bullied. In Pakistan in due course you will get a similar revolution to Iran and the reasons our leaders are having problems following American diktat verbatim is because of the people
You need to explore Pakistan a bit more then.
