Enclosed weapons pod for the JF-17?

I agree in terms of cost benefit aspect specially when they had F-22 and F-35 already developed. But from a proof of concept point of view it cannot be completely dismissed either.

Proof of concept is fine but no customers for F-15SE so far. Both Israel and S-Korea remained committed to buy F-35 albeit in low numbers (due to escalating cost). This suggests that 'some' stealth does not really cut it and customers were willing to pay hefty sum of money (extra US$35-40 million a peace compared to F-15SE) to get the full thing.

If I am not mistaking israel wanted SE but was denied.... There is more to weapons and their success, politics, lobbying , etc

Things that must happen for JF17 to come close to stealthy design

a) Height of plane , has to get raised the plays is low to ground can't fit a weapons bay under it unless height is increased

b) Elimination of External fuel Tanks and redesign of fuel Tanks needed , which snuggle to sides of jet with out containing
breaking lines or nuts and bolts

c) The Canopy has to deflect incoming radar rays or absorb the stuff

d) Availability of radar absorbing material paint , and covering of any signs of bolts on wings and body and elimination of
lines that run across two parts of plane , plus continuous application of radar absorbing paint and material during
maintenance phases.

e) Engine Smoke / Heat distribution (Pretty hard considering we don't make engines)

f) Switching the design of tail to 2 sided one , would the plan even fly ??

g) Construction of new weapon's bay that opens and closes with successful release of payload

Not every country can afford to have 5th gen jets in numbers, so there will be a new but fast growing market of Low Observable Aircraft all over the world specially in developing countries to replace 4th & 4.5 generation jets in next decade; other then new designs lot of existing design of 4th & 4.5th generation fighter Jet will be redesigned to fulfil the market demand, these project which does not appear financially viable in current market trend will become the market standard.

So in my opinion it will not be the waste of resources if we choose to 'study' the prospects of redesign the JF-17 or any new design such as KFX which is suppose to have capabilities better than F-16 blk60, Rafale & Euro Fighter but less than F-35.

I even posted a pic which is rumoured to be stealthy JF-17 circulating on net. That pic certainly shows that redesign is possible.

My friend, I'll try to put it very mildly........ JF17 can NOT be redesigned at this stage in it's development. Stealth aircraft are designed from grounds up. Every dynamic aspect of a stealth aircraft required a completely different set of engineering....... try to listen to @Horus, only enclosed external pods can 'marginally' decrease the RCS........ forget anything else you've read or lead to believe true. It's not happening, and can not happen. Wishes be damned!
Want a stealth aircraft? Send a request to PAF to acquire one for the fanboys!

The officials are more professional and knowledgeable then you and me that is why they signed an MOU for stealthy variant of JF-17 with China go google it.

Hi, if adding external weapons pod is a signifiacant solution , then don't you think even we would follow it for our LCA ..
Of course not possible under fuselage but under wings, and I think we can't have a conformal fuel tank too..

Chinese won't gift stealth fighter like the way they gave you JF 17 , because look at us even though we are a close buddy of Russia and invested a lot in their weapons , got so much of tot for su 30 mki, still in pak fa or FGFA we won't get anything close to the level of su 30.. That's the truth..

@sathya weapons pod concept is introduced by US air giants in F15 & F18 fighter jets and they were assumed 4.5++ stealthy jets, so the same concept can be evolved and implemented as per ones need.

Here I think PAF should redesign JF-17 to 5th gen standards but with out internal weapons bay even if by doing that its cost rise to 40 to 50 Million $, to find cost effective solution to end IAF's quality edge over PAF.
